A tracking device that was implemented for individuals to keep track of their loose belongings gains attention as it teams up with Apple, Google Play and more recently, Amazon.

Finally, it’s here! We have reached a day where we may no longer be frantically tossing couch cushions in the air in search for keys, or aimlessly roaming parking lots for our vehicles. We the people may finally be able to keep track of our belongings simply with the help of our smartphones.

The solution to the endless game of inanimate hide and seek is an app and device called TrackR. TrackR was a gadget created in 2009 to help individuals keep track of loose items that often go missing. Over the years, the device has been improved and linked to a smartphone app in order to track and retrieve lost or stolen items.

Co-Founder, Chris Herbert said, “We initially started in 2009 and we didn’t quite have the product right. After a few generations of iterating, we really nailed the product.”

The product is about the size of a quarter and the app is free for Iphone and Android users.

Devices can be purchased on the company’s website for $29.00.

After linking the device to your free, downloaded app, you can attach it to whatever you wish. The tracker can attach to keys, wallets, cars and even pets.

If a valuable is lost or stolen, it can be located with the press of a button. Once the “find device” button is selected on the app, the system quickly shows on a map where the device is located or sounds an alarm.

TrackR devices are small and can be placed on pretty much anything. The company has sold over 1.5 million devices and users have described results to be “amazing.”

A recent blog post by the company also stated that Amazon’s Alexa has joined in on the fun.

According to Reuters, it was an investment anywhere between $250,000 - $500,000 that Amazon faithfully put into collaborating with TrackR to help advance the device and the app into more homes, while also enhancing Alexa's abilities and features.

Herbert said, “The competition has surprisingly been fierce," he continues, "Overall I really appreciate the competition as it will continue to drive the tracker industry forward.”
