Incase you thought production EVs couldn’t push the extra mile, this news from Renault may have you wondering 24 hours. The French automaker has set a record for the longest distance traveled by a production EV in 24 hours. Two Renault Zoe’s, powered solely on battery have set a world record by traveling 1000 miles in a span of 24 hours.
At this point, all the gasoline junkies would argue about the range of the Zoe. While traditional charger takes almost a day for charging and a Level 2 charger takes over 6 hours to charge, the Zoe on test featured a closed loop Level 3 charger, giving it an 80 percent charge in under 30 mins. Moreover, the patented Cameleon charger it compatible with any power source up to 43kW. On full charge, the clean, green, mean Zoe will take 130 miles to fully juice-out.
Along the run, the two Renault cars recharged about 18 times in 24 hours. While one clocked 935 miles, the other pushed it a ton to 1,005 miles, thrashing the previous world record of 795 miles.
As the EV cars struggle to take the mainstream, this new world record could change the perception of consumer towards EVs. The Renault Zoe is set to hit the market by October with a starting price of $20,000 as per ex-showroom. Its advantage over the cousin Nissan Leaf is that the Zoe comes at more affordable rate and improved charging system.
