Magic! Talks About Manbuns, T-Swifty, And Disney Movies

I recently had the opportunity of talking to Magic!, the boys behind the hit song "Rude". After enduring the madness that is Los Angeles parking and the struggle of trying to walk in heels, meeting Magic was completely worth it. Of course, we only talked about the truly important things in life. Totally.

The boys are no strangers to the manbun trend.

"I actually happen to rock the manbun," explains frontman Nasri. He calls it the soccer manbun. When I mentioned it looked like Harry Styles' current do, he quickly corrected me that it's actually referred to as the Nasri bun.

We're still a little iffy on whether "Let Your Hair Down" was written as a tribute to all the men sporting manbuns, but regardless, it's a pretty catchy tune.

As if they couldn't be any more perfect, they're Disney fans.

Not only does Nasri channel the Aladdin look, he relates to him on a personal level.

"He's a dude that started with nothing and got to something, and that's something I can relate to. I had a great family, and we always had food, but we didn't have a lot. I had to work really hard to get where I'm at. And of course, I have a friend, and he's a monkey," explains Nasri.

Of course, he rolled to The Forum in a magic carpet.

And they're pretty scared about the new Disney remakes.

In case you didn't hear, Disney is continuing their live-action movie trend by remaking Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Winnie the Pooh, and Dumbo.

Nasri initially described his reaction as "tingly", but he later explained that it "connects the older generation with the younger generation."

Ben Spivak, the bass player of Magic!, feels "warm and tingly about the new Disney movies." D'aww!

We're calling it now: Magic! would be the perfect people to collab with on the Winnie the Pooh soundtrack. Imagine reggae music with a touch of the Hundred Acre Woods and Winnie the Pooh. Perfect.

They're here to clarify the Canadian bacon controversy.

The lads hail from Toronto, Canada, and have some important two cents to give about the Canadian bacon/weak ham controversy.

"It's peameal bacon," explains the sassy but adorable Mark Pellizer. "It's similar to ham."

While Nasri''s not a personal fan, Ben Spivak advocates trying it with maple syrup. "It's the perfect Canadian treat," he says.

Amoeba Music is their getaway.

The name's tricky to say, but the place is the perfect paradise for any music-lover. Located in Downtown Los Angeles, the store provides something that's unfortunately becoming more and more rare: records.

"We go there all the time," says Nasri. "They're one of the last record stores. If record stores disappear, that's okay, if that's where music goes. People should start listening to albums. We made a body of work, and we want people to discover it."

They're chill with Spotify.

They're chill about most things, including the recent controversy with Spotify, and Taylor Swift's decision to go off it.

"Taylor's obviously a big star," says Nasri. "Hopefully one day we'll know what it's like to be here. Spotify has been supportive of us, and while we're probably making less money, we would be making no money without it. As long as they are paying artists and writers, then we don't see anything wrong with it."

We also met Alex, the band's drummer and social media wiz.

If he wasn't into music, he would have chosen the career path of an athlete. Pretty rad, dude.

They're bros for life.

"We keep each other accountable," explains Nasri. "We've already gone through that phase in our lives. We're interested in playing our music and our shows, and interacting with all of our fans."

At one point, Nasri wanted to be an eye doctor.

"I was hit in the eye when I was five years old, so I wanted to be an eye doctor," explained Nasri. After he realized he wasn't into the whole medical path, he began pursuing music at age six and he's been going strong ever since.

They're going places. (Literally).
