McDonald's Is Experimenting With Fresh, Non-Frozen Burgers

The fresh, non-frozen burgers will be tested at 14 locations in Dallas.

McDonald's just announced they are testing out burgers with an ingredient some are finding surprising: fresh, non-frozen beef.


The fast food chain typically serves "flash frozen" burgers, which "is when beef is ground fresh and then quickly frozen to seal in fresh flavor," according to the McDonald's website.

The non-frozen beef will be tested as quarter pounders at 14 locations in Dallas, Nation's Restaurant News reported.


McDonald’s spokeswoman Lisa McComb told Nation's Restaurant News that it is too soon to say whether fresh beef will be available elsewhere, or be made a permanent part of the menu.

"Like all of our tests, this one too is designed to see what works and what doesn't within our restaurants by considering the operational experience, customer response, price points and other important information, which may inform future decisions," McComb said.

"It's very premature to draw any conclusions from this test," she added.
