1. The first time Edward ever sees Kim, you can tell he is floored by her beauty. Floored!
2. And then he gives her photo a "I've never seen a teenage girl before, but you are definitely the most beautiful one in the world" smile.
3. While he's generally confused about his new surroundings, you can tell he's mostly curious about Kim's mirror decorations/obsession with eyes?
4. As all promising movie romances, their first encounter is painfully awkward. Like, Edward popping a waterbed awkward.
5. And it only kind of goes downhill from there when Bill accidentally gets Edward drunk while ranting about teenage girl hormones.
6. But things really shift when Edward helps Kim's douchebag boyfriend break into his own house (and then takes the heat for it.)
7. Pretty soon, Kim starts catching those feelings HARD.
8. And secretly becomes just as obsessed with Edward as he is with her.
9. While Edward channels his frustrations into ice sculptures, Kim grows more and more fascinated by this awesome dude who's been living under her own roof this whole time.
10. "Shit. Why am I dating an obnoxious jock again?"
11. He carves the ice, she dances in the ice. It's beautiful. It's perfect.
12. And then of course there's the "hold me" scene. OH, THE "HOLD ME" SCENE.
13. It's absolutely heartbreaking. It almost destroys you.
14. Until Kim decides to hold Edward instead, restoring your faith in love and all good things in the world because this scene is one of the best moments in cinematic history.
15. But things soon fall apart, and we know just as much as they do that they’re doomed as a couple just by judging by how desperately they look at each other.
16. After Kim is attacked by her ex-boyfriend, Edward protects her and kills the jerk in a moment that is, tbh, very gratifying.
17. Of course, this means he has to let her go - forever.
18. But not before they share a kiss that is soul-crushing in its sweetness.
19. And finally, the moment that's been building this whole time:
20. With Kim's declaration of love, Edward finally finds his purpose. He is transformed.
21. And even though they're no longer together, he still carves his ice sculptures, Kim forever being a muse.
And also, Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder were actually dating and in love when this was filmed, so all the insane chemistry is 100% real.
