To Make Education Accessible, Villagers In Sonbhadra Construct A Road Over The Hillock

These people didn't leave any stone unturned, literally, to make education accessible

In what is a prime example of what human will and determination can achieve, residents of Chauparniya Tola, a small village in Uttar Pradesh's Sonbhadra District have come together to construct a road so that their children can be educated.

Sonbhadra is perhaps one of the most far flung districts in the country. It's geography with with Vindhya and Kaimur hills cradling it, makes it a treacherous stretch.

The village, finally got its first primary school around three years back, but teachers found it hard to commute the rough mountainous terrain of more than six kilometers in absence of a road.

In order to make the daily commute easy for teachers, the residents met officials to get the road built.

However, when they found that the project was taking too much time, they decided to something about it and drew up a plan and made it a community project.

It was decided that every resident would devote a certain amount of time every week and construct the road.

It was 22 months back. Today the area boasts of a road that is used by the teachers to travel to the school and teach children.

Impressed by the dedication and pro-activeness of the people of Chanuparniya Tola, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav, honoured them.
