Did The BJP Just Shoot Itself In The Foot With Kairana?

Isn’t the political party fanning the embers of communalism

BJP had everything going for itself these past couple of weeks. Mr Modi had a successful five nation tour, the party was celebrating two year anniversary, senior Congress leaders became former Congress leaders and Raghuram Rajan didn’t give the gossip people wanted.

However, somebody caste an evil eye and BJP raised Kairana issue. Hukum Singh, MP from Kairana, a BJP leader released a list with 346 names. These people had allegedly left the town due to communal issues and within no time Kairana was equated to Kashmir exodus.

Going by history this would have kicked up a storm and polarised the state. Luckily our media has come off age and before writing about it they decided investigate.

News channels and publications went on ground and found that many of the people mentioned in the list were still living in Kairana.

Also, a large number of population, almost 65% had moved more than 15 years back, and majority of the people who had migrated had done so for higher education and better jobs.

As a person who is happy with many policies of the central government, I have one appeal, please don’t discredit all your good work with political gimmicks and please don’t polarise Uttar Pradesh and make things harder for the people of the state.
