9 Women In "Mad Max: Fury Road" Who Are Just As Badass As Charlize Theron

All hail the Keeper of the Seeds!

Spoiler alert: Despite what you may have heard, Tom Hardy is not the star of Mad Max: Fury Road. The real lead is Charlize Theron’s kick ass Imperator Furiosa.

Director George Miller says he didn’t set out to make a feminist action movie, but he packed this thing so chock-full of badass women that it was inevitable. But here are nine that aren’t quite getting the credit they’re due:

1. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley as The Splendid Angharad

What a transformation Huntington-Whiteley made from starring as Girl With Boobs #2 in the third Transformers movie to slaying us in Mad Max: Fury Road. Her most kick ass moment? (ACTUAL SPOILER ALERT) How about when she's willing to sacrifice herself to free her fellow "wives"? Or when she’s 8 months pregnant and takes a bullet but still keeps running?

2. Zoë Kravitz as Toast the Knowing

Kravitz (yes, from that Kravitz family) is no stranger to action movies — she played Angel in X-Men: First Class and plays Christina in the Divergent series. Here, she seems to be the only wife who knows how to handle a gun and is basically an ammunitions expert.

3. Riley Keough as Capable

Keough (who had a bit part in Magic Mike and is the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley and granddaughter of Elvis, NBD) is the wife trusting and brave enough to give Nux (Nicholas Hoult) a second chance — which ends up working out for all of them. Also, she’s good with a pair of box cutters.

4. Abbey Lee as The Dag

Lee is a Vogue Australia cover girl and has walked in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Fury Road is actually her acting debut. Which is nuts, because she seems like she was born to be in action movies. Like when she lays the hurt on Hardy’s Max, or kicks the crap out of any number of other faceless bad guys.

5. Courtney Eaton as Cheedo the Fragile

Eaton is another Australian model making her movie debut. While her character initially seems to live up to the name, an epic reversal in the last act has Cheedo putting herself out there in as sneaky as it is badass in order to help Furiosa.

6. Jennifer Hagan as Miss Giddy

Hagan, who you might recognize from the Robin William’s movie Jack, was fully covered in (fake) tattoos for this role, a look fitting of a woman who was not only instrumental in freeing the harem, but who had big enough ovaries to stand down Immortan Joe with a shotgun.

7. Megan Gale as The Valkyrie

The model-turned Project Runway Australia host-turned actress does loads of kick ass stuff in Mad Max, but the one that made us flinch? When she slid down a rope completely naked. That is rope burn in a place you do not want it. Fun fact: Back when Miller was set to direct a Justice League movie, he cast Gale as his Wonder Woman.

8. Melissa Jaffer as Keeper of the Seeds

Jaffer (a.k.a. Utu-Noranti Pralatong from Farscape!) rides a motorcycle, brags about her killer aim, and literally carries around the seeds of life in her bag. Oh, AND AT 78, SHE DID HER OWN STUNTS. Ditto to all the badass women of The Vuvalini.

9. And special honorary ass kicker: Margaret Sixel.

Sixel wasn’t in the movie, but her fingerprints were all over it — she’s the editor. Sixel is also Miller’s wife, and he told The L.A. Times he enlisted her because, “If it was the usual [male editors] it would look like every other movie you see." Mission accomplished.
