This image has replaced the Al Jazeera homepage since shortly after 2 p.m. ET.
The text reads: “We have hacked you because your lack of support of Syrian government and militant groups backed by that government. Al Jazeera has been spreading lies. We’re compelled to do so on behalf of the Syrian people,” according to Gizmodo.
At first, the image was only appearing on the homepage of aljazeera.net. Shortly after, it hit aljazeera.com.
This is the second major Syria-related hack to hit an international news organization since August. Last month, Reuters was hacked with false reports from Syria. In July, an Al Jazeera Twitter account was also hacked by Syrian activists.
