James TW, One of the youngest artist to sign with Island Records, is an 18 year old from across the pond and shows great potential and musical promise. With is impressive debut EP appropriately entitled "First Impressions," he has caught the eye (or should I say ear) of major record label, Island Records, whom artists like Justin Beiber, Katy Perry, Demi Lovato and Shawn Mendes are also signed with.
James TW's acoustic and contemporary sound compares to that of fellow UK native, Ed Sheeran. And with his smooth tone and heartfelt vocals, no wonder his peer Shawn Mendes scooped him up to open for his sold out world tour this summer. James TW's lyrical rawness and gentle touch of blues and soul is reminiscent of earlier works of another promised UK artist who went on to become a success. I'm alluding to the one, the only, Maiden of the UK, ADELE!!!
I first heard James TW when going through the "New Releases" chart on spotify. When I heard his cover of Torn I just had to go to his artist page. There, I listened to his whole EP and I wanted MORE!!! Torn, with more of an electronic and alternative sound differed from his original Sanctuary, which is more of an up-beat blues/soulful song. And Sanctuary differed from When you love someone, an acoustic and lyrical tear-jerker. (listen to his full EP here) Each song in his EP is different but also has his signature sound.
James TW's debut as a signed artist has been doing well. Every time I go back to his artist page he gains followers by the hundreds of thousands and song downloads are steadily growing by the millions. James TW shows true potential of being a musical star of our new generation. His unique sound and rhythm combinations enable his music to cross into a wide range of different genres; this yields more listeners across different musical preferences.
With his new record label, debut EP, collaboration with Shawn Mendes' tour and his expansion of followers everyday, James TW has all of the promise of the next big artist on the circuit. Be sure to watch and hear for him in the future.
