The year is 2005. You've just got home from school. You down a lunchable. Family Channel (or Disney Channel if you're American) is on. You're about to watch your favourite siblings Casey and Derek get up to some shenanigans. Life is good.
But looking back now with a fully developed frontal lobe, I realize what my sweet, naive brain did not. Life With Derek is 1000000000% about siblings in love.
For those of you who don't know, Life With Derek was a Canadian sitcom that revolved around the lives of a blended family. It starred Michael Seater as Derek, and Ashley Leggat as his step-sister (and possibly lover?), Casey.
And it turns out, we're not the only ones who are convinced the show is actually about a forbidden love story between a girl and her brother.
May I present, Exhibit A:
Robbie Amell, who played Max (AKA Casey's non-brother boyfriend) on LWD, sat down with BuzzFeed Canada to chat about his new movie, Code 8: Part II, and address *those* LWD viral fan theories.
Our favourite BuzzFeeder Isabella started her line of interrogation and went straight to the point: "Life With Derek is famously Disney’s show about siblings being in love with each other,"
Robbie cackled, reliving his first television role, "That's not what it's actually about. That's just what fans like to think it was about,"
"This was on Disney!?" Stephen Amell, Robbie's cousin and co-star in Code 8: Part II, was simultaneously horrified and fascinated at this revelation. Same, Stephen, Same.
"What was it like playing [Casey's] non-brother boyfriend?" Isabella continued. And then...the truth comes out.
"I just wanted her and the other - Derek, to get together so badly, like everyone else on the show," Robbie confesses.
Screaming. Crying. Throwing up.
Derek and Casey are end game!!!!!
