11 Bands And Artists That Should Be Way More Popular

Here are the top 11 bands and artists who deserve to be taking over the radio (or whatever the equivalent of the radio is now).

    11. BreakBot

Electronic Music these days either sounds like Disco revival or two robots practicing Krav Maga. The latter has been made popular by awesome artists like Chromeo and Daft Punk, but no one has made it sound better or more authentic than BreakBot. Intelligently composed and hypnotically groovy; BreakBot songs should be invading way more earbuds.

    10. Natural Child

Natural Child is a three piece band from Tennessee that look like if the kids from Hey Arnold! grew up to huff paint for breakfast. They’re always sweaty, they’d rather be doing drugs, and they sound like a much better version of that band you saw at that Brooklyn loft-party you were dragged to.

    9. Foxygen

Foxygen is an eclectic duo from California and a dream come true for the cranky record store clerk in all of us. With their last album, "We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace and Magic," still mugging our ears with every awesome sound of the 60’s, the gents are preparing for their 3rd release “Foxygen… and Star Power." Lead singer, Sam France, and his bananas new style that resembles Iggy Pop in a Jem costume, teased us with a powerfully catchy single that deserves to give boogie shoes to a much larger audience.

    8. Feist

Feist did have a brief moment of success a few years ago when she showed us that she could count to four and stuff. She get's a spot on the list because her most recent album, “Metals,” went almost completely unnoticed. Which was a bloody shame considering that it’s one of the most mature and interestingly structured "singer song writer" albums of all time. Her fanbase deserves to grow since she's shown us that's what her sound is going to do. (Also, check out “Feistodon," which is an EP of her and the metal band, Mastodon, covering each other's songs. It’s insane!)

    7. Every Time I Die

Every Time I Die have been one of the most popular bands of the hardcore genre for almost two decades. With their newest album, “From Parts Unkown,” the boys from Buffalo prove that they are ready to be one of the most popular bands in any genre. The riffs are punchier than John Bender's father and lead singer, Keith Buckley, shouts a self-loathing diary with the ferocity of a sun bear on meth. Their latest videos show that even though the band is growing up, they're still "bitten by the party animal." Critics agree that the album is a masterpiece and fans of any type of aggressive music should put this album in their ears and let it “Blow their fucking brains out.” (This Video is NSFW… but you should watch it there anyway)

    6. Cakes Da Killa

We’re in an age where rap and hip hop is becoming extremely diverse and off kilter, and it doesn't get more astoundingly avant garde than Cakes Da Killa. For the past 3 years, Cakes has been absolutely destroying the underground scene in NYC with his brilliantly produced beats and insane flow. We're a society clamoring for diversity. Thus, a gay MC that can combine humor and aggression so seamlessly should have a much bigger following. Also, “Quick to mute a silly ho' while I'm watching Reba" Is such an ill line, I got Meningitis while typing it.

    5. Foxy Shazam

The second band on the list to have foxy in their name, Foxy Shazam brought us the "Church of Rock N’ Roll" 3 years ago and its been helping to make me deaf almost every day since. Even though recently they released an album, called “Gonzo,” that’s almost the opposite of Rock n Roll, and lead singer, Eric Nally, decided to start dressing like the little kid from Let The Right One In; "The Church of Rock N’ Roll" is still a monstrously fun album and Eric’s powerful voice and stage antics deserve all the attention they can get.

    4. Kvelertak

Probably the coolest genre combination of all time. Kvelertak is a Norwegian band that are half black metal and half classic rock. Kvelertak exploded on the metal scene 4 years ago with their self titled debut and have continued to rocket in popularity since the release of their magnum opus, “Meir.” These dudes don’t have one song in english and they look like extra’s in Fiddler on the Roof; yet they’re opening up for huge acts like Metallica and the friggin' Foo Fighters! Considering how well written and enormous their songs are; these gents truly deserve a co-headling spot with both of those bands.

    3. The Darkness

Raise your hand if you knew the Darkness had a new album that came out 2 years ago (Bueller??)? I know there were probably a few of you, but for the most part the album came out unreported and unnoticed. Which is an actual tragedy considering it's the masterpiece of rock revival we've been waiting for. The band reformed and came back on the scene opening for Lady Gaga with better songs, stripping grizzly bears, and jumpsuits so incredible, they'll make you wanna set your closet on fire. With "I Believe In a Thing Called Love" we all thought they would go down as a one hit wonder. With "Hot Cakes" the fellas prove they are anything but. It's a shame no one noticed.

    2. Against Me!

A few years ago, Against Me! gained a lot of press and attention when singer Laura Jane Grace came out as transgender. Against Me! has always been a powerful band that could say more with three chords than most do with their entire discography, and Laura's transition only made them better. Their latest album, “Transgender Dysphoria Blues,” is full of strong, catchy anthems about transgender struggles that are written with such care and honesty that anyone can relate to them. With an album this deep, and a band leader as vulnerable and fearless as Laura Jane Grace; Against Me! is gonna be the sonic therapist for the next generation of angsty teenagers.

    1. Robyn

Okay, I know that Robyn is actually an extremely popular artist. Probably everyone reading this list has jammed a Q-tip in to their ear trying to get “Dancing on My Own” out of their head. However, I put her at the top of this list because I think she honestly deserves more. Robyn is untouchably unique in her style and performance and "Body Talk” might be the best pop album since fucking “Thriller.” Late night host, and dopplegänger of the old lady from the “wat” memes, Jay Leno, once said, “you’re not famous until my mother has heard of you.” And it’s time that Catherine Leno "knows better."
