    If You’re Not Feeling The Recovery The Tories Are Talking About, You’re Not Alone

    Your 30-second guide to the 2014 Budget.

    Wednesday is Budget day. It’s from the same guys who brought you the granny tax, and even tried to tax pasties.

    It’s the time when the Chancellor will say how he thinks the economy is going. And for some people, it’s going just fine, thank you very much.

    Back in the real world… here’s what’s happening to most of us: we’re £1600 a year worse off since 2010.

    But David Cameron and George Osborne don’t know much about those people.

    Recently, the Tories said they are now “the workers’ party”. They’ve only helped some workers though: millionaires. They gave a big, generous tax cut to millionaire workers, while putting up taxes for everyone else.

    Labour will do things differently.

    We’ll cut taxes for 24 million people on low and middle incomes by introducing a lower 10p starting rate of tax, funded by a mansion tax.

    And we’ll help with the cost-of-living crisis: (you know we’re going to say it...) we’d freeze energy bills to prevent customers being ripped off.

    Before we lose your attention, we will:

    •support working families by expanding free childcare for three- and four-year-olds;

    •get 200,000 new houses built every year by 2020;

    •get young people back to work with a job guarantee paid for through a tax on bank bonuses.

    You’re still here? In that case, here’s a gif of a dog skiing downhill.
