A redditor called Ryan, who is 25 and from Indiana, discovered his dad was leaving his mum, and got her the perfect card to express his support for her.
The poem in the card reads:
Embracing the sunshine you find in each day,
Pushing through challenges as they come your way,
Smiling in the face of adversity...
...this is what makes you the extraordinary person you are.
You truly are an inspiration, and you have my continued love and support.
Ryan then added:
I found this in the terminally ill section, but it still works. Sorry Dad's an asshole – Ryan
Ryan told BuzzFeed what inspired him to buy the card:
"I decided to get the card for my mom because she has been having a very hard time with what she found out and having to divorce her high school sweetheart. While I don't know the specifics of the situation or much of my dad's side, I knew I had to do something for my mom to at least make her smile and not feel alone in all of this.
"I left the card with flowers that had a wooden yellow smiley face in them on the kitchen table for her when she came home. When's he did she read it and came downstairs to where I was, crying, and hugged me thanking me for how sweet it was and for thinking of her. She thought it was hilarious and was just what she needed today."
He added, "A lot of times words never help, and gestures often come off as hollow."
"I find that a balance between the two can make the biggest difference in any situation. I know my mom, and if she's anything like me she just needed a laugh and some support like she had a teammate in all of this."
