The Scientific Reason You Get Sick When You're Drunk

    Because science.

Drunk. We've all been there. It's the circle of life. Work, drink, sleep, repeat.

We've all heard the saying "Beer then liquor, never been sicker" and "Liquor then beer, have no fear." But what's the real reason we get sick after we've drank too much?

In case you weren't aware alcohol is a poison and your body can only process one unit of alcohol an hour. Just to put it in perspective one beer at 5% alcohol by volume is approximately 1.6 units of alcohol.

When you have too much alcohol in your blood your body will stop working properly. Your stomach will process alcohol more slowly when you've eaten, which means more of the enzymes in the alcohol will be broken down before they move on to your liver.

You should always be smart about how much you drink and be wary of alcohol poisoning. The only way to really prevent getting sick when you drink is to pace yourself.
