17 Reasons Why Seventeen Should Be Your New Favorite Boy Group

Unless you live under a rock, you've probably heard about this thing called K-pop, but just in case you haven't, here's a good place to start.

Seventeen, a thirteen member boy group under Pledis Entertainment, started gaining traction with debut song "Adore U" on May 26th of 2015. They have since debut released two mini-albums, one full album, and one repackaged album with title tracks "Mansae", "Pretty U", and "Very Nice".

They're called Seventeen because there are thirteen members, 3 subunits, and one total group. 13+3+1= Seventeen!

The members from left to right are

Top: Jun, Vernon, DK, S.Coups, The8, Mingyu

Middle: Wonwoo, Woozi, Seungkwan

Bottom: Hoshi, Joshua, Jeonghan, Dino

Shall we get into the reasons why they're worth your attention?

1. They're extremely talented.

"Very Nice", their most recent release, highlights their vocalists and rappers pulled together with the fun and engaging choreography to make for an absolutely flawless track and music video.

2. They are a self produced group.

Seventeen is entirely self produced. From the music you hear to the dance moves you see, it's all made by the members. With the help of the other group members, Woozi and Hoshi create the songs and dance.

3. They love their fanbase.

Seventeen love their fanbase, called Carats! They once had a performance where they sang "Pretty U" with pictures of Carats on the back screen. When it reached the hook that translates to "You are pretty!", they turned to face the photos behind them.

4. Many of the members had to train and hold off debut for 3 or more years.

Seventeen may be only composed of thirteen members now, but that wasn't always how it was. There used to be seventeen in total, as their name would imply, but through their pre-debut program called Seventeen Project they ended up narrowing it down to thirteen in total. They were initially set to debut in 2013 but that was postponed for two years to follow.

5. They're extremely dedicated.

They put so much pressure on themselves to do well with their music. While still on Seventeen Project, Woozi was feeling so much discomfort with the small turnout of a crowd at their first pre-debut showcase.

6. Their vocal unit's harmonizations.

Seventeen's vocalists are among the most impressive I've personally ever heard. If you're looking to bless yourself with pure talent then hit play on the video above.

7. They're extremely down to earth.

When they earned their first win for song "Pretty U" on Korean Music Show "Show Champion", many of the members were brought to tears.

8. They're really funny!

If you're looking for a quick laugh you don't have to look any further than the boys attempting to speak English or their own version of Korean show "One Fine Day", titled "13 Castaway Boys".

9. They can sing and speak in English too!

If you want to hear some content you can understand from them, they have that too! Woozi has covered Jason Mraz's I'm Yours as well as many other English songs, and two of their members, Vernon and Joshua, can speak English fluently. Oh, and of course, Seungkwan is the best at speaking English (ft. Vernon [Hansol] getting a big kick out of him being low quality).

11. Their fan interaction

In K-Pop, it's very rare to find artists who keep their Twitter is consistently updated with posts from the members. They are very interactive with Carats on social media, trying to respond to whatever replies they can whenever they want. Though mostly in Korean, it's very cool to see it regardless.

14. They care about each other a lot.

Member Wonwoo has been out of the group's activities due to an illness that he has to recover from, but every time the members go out to perform they have something that symbolizes him on stage with them. During promotions for song "Pretty U", they had a photo of Wonwoo stuck to the book that they use throughout the choreography.

When they traveled to New York City to attend KCON NY, member Mingyu brought along a yellow fox with glasses to symbolize the older member. Here's Mingyu with the Wonwoo fox!

15. Their dance practices are hilarious

They're really just a bunch of goofballs who love messing around. It's really hard to keep focused on one specific member when there's so much going on!

16. Their hip-hop unit is lit

Mingyu, Wonwoo, and Vernon with leader S.Coups make for Seventeen's Hip-Hop unit, focused on rapping. Many of their songs end up going hard but are also very fun.

(But for the record, they definitely aren't actually as hardcore as their songs and skills make them out to be.)
