UPDATE: Well, as Elle Woods would say...we did it! After our collective outrage and shock, Netflix granted our holiday wishes. Friends isn't going anywhere in 2019!
I really hate to be the bearer of bad news, so I'm just going to rip this band-aid right off — Friends is leaving Netflix in the United States at the end of the year:
That's right, as you are ringing in 2019, making resolutions about leather pants or doing the routine, Friends will be leaving right before our very eyes:
And even though I own all 10 seasons on DVD and have cable, I'm still distraught about this news. (I really can't explain it, but it's just how I feel!!!!)
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one having a strong reaction to this news. Like, we're FINE:
We're...fine...
We're...NOT FINE, OKAY!!!!!!
I don't care what Frankie say, how can I EVER relax again?
The small silver lining is people are speculating this means the show will be coming to Warner Media's upcoming streaming service in late 2019.
But, anyway, now's your last chance for Friends marathons. Have a great December!!!
UPDATE
There might still be some hope! Netflix's chief content officer Ted Sarandos told The Hollywood Reporter that the show's "departure is a rumor" and the 1/1/2019 date has since been removed from Netflix.
