Where Are They Now: Kitchen Nightmares

Have these restaurants actually shaped up or would they still horrify Chef Gordon Ramsay?

Kitchen Nightmares began in 2007 and while Chef Gordon Ramsay announced the series officially done in 2014, he has hinted that he is simply taking a break and will return at "a later date." Out of the 77 restaurants visited, only 30 remain open.

Take a look at a few of the most tumultuous restaurant visits and if they are still open today.

Original Air Date: December 12, 2007

Notable Chef Ramsay Quote: "I'm trying to get inside your mind so I can start getting breaking down to how stupid you are."

Major Breakdown Moment: When customers start losing patience due to how much time they've had to wait for their entrees, Jane, a waitress, walks out after Chef Michel loses his temper, blaming Jane for the customers walking out. Chef Ramsey even comments that The Secret Garden was the most disorganized kitchen in America on that night.

Update: The Secret Garden is still open but reviews are mixed with comments about a lack of diners and accusations of false reviews submitted by Michel.

    Location: West Nyack, NY

Original Air Date: November 13, 2008

Notable Chef Ramsay Quote: "This is a burrito here? It looks like someone got sick on my plate."

Major Breakdown Moment: Gordon enters the kitchen and moves some plates, he discovers an infestation of cockroaches, the staff don't acknowledge the problem and Patty and Yolanda had no idea, Vic however tells Gordon was aware of the critters. Gordon calls in an exterminator and walks out. He returns to be able to witness a full dinner service as last nights was cut short. They begin the dinner service prepped and serving fresh food. However the chefs overcook the rice and Yolanda steps in, this causes the kitchen to back up and customers are left waiting for food. On one table half the customers have no food whilst the others have eaten theirs.

Update: Fiesta Sunrise closed in September 2008 before the episode even aired. They closed due to failing to pay back taxes.

Season 3 Episode 6: Le Bistro

    Location: Lighthouse Point, FL

Original Air Date: March 11, 2010

Notable Chef Ramsay Quote: "Why can't you just cook it?!"

Major Breakdown Moment: Chef Andy needed full control over the kitchen, so after an hour, only one dish being cooked, and a kitchen full of staff waiting for direction, customers start to get impatient. Chef Ramsey even goes to a restaurant next door and orders take out and gets his food in just 10 minutes to show how bad the service is.

Update: The restaurant is still open and Andy is still doing his cookery classes. The owners have expanded into providing produce to a local market.

    Season 4 Episode 6: Downcity

Original Air Date: March 11, 2011

Notable Chef Ramsay Quote: "She's deluded, that one."

Major Breakdown Moment: Chef Ramsay calls Rico and Abby down to take a look and Abby insists that the refrigerator wasn't like that before and starts screaming at Gordon. They get into a huge argument and Abby orders Gordon to leave so he leaves. Rico chases after him and Gordon explains that there is nothing he can do with Abby so deep in denial.

Update: Downcity closed in December 2011. Gordon's changes weren't liked by many returning customers.

Season 4 Episode 7: Cafe Tavolini

    Location: Bridgeport, CT

Original Air Date: March 25, 2011

Notable Chef Ramsay Quote: "I can't help owners who can't help themselves."

Major Breakdown Moment: With the restaurant split between the old menu and a new family style menu, food started to drag out of the kitchen because of over 70 different menu options available. Lisa and Keith, the owners, took a passive approach when customers started to become more impatient, with Keith making his own drink and walking out of the restaurant and Lisa "zoned out" and stopped waiting her tables.

Update: Cafe Tavolini closed in December 2010 just after Christmas. The restaurant was later investigated by the Attorney General for selling gift cards right before closing. Keith, the owner, said they closed due to medical reasons. The closure appears to be due to struggling to pay rent, vendors and with debts including tax owed to the city. Their relationship could not be saved and Lisa and Keith separated.

    Season 5 Episode 5 & 6: Burger Kitchen

    Location: Los Angeles, CA

    Original Air Date: November 4 & 11, 2011

Notable Chef Ramsay Quote: "Executive Chef David Blaine? What the magician? Is David Copperfield the dessert chef?"

Major Breakdown Moment: Gordon loves Chef David's burger but hates Alan's, the owner, this leads to a walk out. For the evening service, Daniel, the owner's son, is sent out to work front of house and there is ticket confusion. Food speeds out of the kitchen just to speed back in so Daniel and David argue and Daniel throws him out the kitchen. The guests start to leave and David comes back for the money he is owed, Gen writes a check and asks Daniel to put cash in to cover the cheque. Daniel's partner Wendy tells Daniel's parents he isn't putting in any more cash and another argument breaks out.

Update: Burger Kitchen continued under new ownership starting in late 2011 around when the episode aired, and closed in February 2012. New owner said online reviews killed the restaurant, which continued the ongoing "yelp conspiracy."

    Season 5 Episode 11: Spin-A-Yarn Steakhouse

    Location: Fremont, CA

Original Air Date: February 10, 2012

Notable Chef Ramsay Quote: "Right now I've got a plan - to get the f**k out of here."

Major Breakdown Moment: After Jennifer, the owner's wife was given the task of cutting the prime rib table side, she starts to break down since she states that she has never cut meat before. She goes so far as to tell customers to not order the prime rib.

Update: Spin-A-Yarn is still open and the prime rib remains popular. In May 2012 a new head chef was appointed, but reviews are still mixed on Yelp.

Season 6 Episode 9: Sam's Mediterranean Kabob Room

    Location: Monrovia, CA

Original Air Date: February 15, 2013

Notable Chef Ramsay Quote: "What's he trying to do, kill me?"

Major Breakdown Moment: After the head chef attempts to serve undercooked chicken, tensions rise even more between the owner and his kids, the only staff at the restaurant. After they close for the evening a huge fight breaks out between the kids and ends up with Chef Ramsay stepping in forcing them to talk to each other and break the tension.

Update: Sam's Mediterranean Kabob Room closed in January 2014 after the owners stated that business never picked up after being on the show.

    Season 6 Episode 15: Amy's Baking Company

    youtube.com / Via kitchennightmaresupdates.com

    Location: Scottsdale, AZ

Original Air Date: May 10, 2013

Notable Chef Ramsay Quote: "Meeting you two for the first time, you are both f**king nuts."

Major Breakdown Moment: Too many to count, but the biggest breakdown was when one of the servers asks if Amy, the chef, was correct about which table the food was meant for, Amy fires the server on the spot.

Update: Not enough words for this one. This was the first restaurant that Gordon walked out on, and the story went viral after that. Amy and Samy responded to people on Facebook calling them names. Pretty much all the reviews are people bashing Amy and Samy from the show and not actual diners.

Season 7 Episode 4: Kati Allo

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com / Via kitchennightmaresupdates.com

    Location: Queens, NY

Original Air Date: April 18, 2014

Notable Chef Ramsay Quote: "This area of Queens is called Flushing and right now I'd like to flush these down the toilet."

Major Breakdown Moment: Gordon returns in the evening to observe a dinner service and is not impressed when Manny cuts into chicken on the grill to check it is thoroughly cooked, something an amateur cook might do. A dish arrives in the kitchen via a dumbwaiter and Gordon is surprised to find that it is cooked, which means it was cooked elsewhere. He finds out that there is a kitchen downstairs and there is a member of staff down there microwaving dishes!

Update: Kati Allo closed in April of 2014, shortly after the episode aired. They originally closed with the promise of renovations, but never opened.
