Okay let's get right to it: In the opening scenes of Terminator: Dark Fate, John Connor dies.
It's Dark Fate's signal that the movie is taking the franchise in a new direction. After all, John Connor has been at the center of it, in one way or another, from the very beginning.
Needless to say, a lot of fans were upset by the twist...

It sucks what’s happened to Terminator Dark Fate.....but the opening scene absolutely killed the whole thing. It didn’t have to go there. I am in denial.
The first two movies told us John Connor was the only hope for humanity. The plot of those two movies revolve around people giving up their lives to save him. You can't then kill him off and act like he isn't needed. #TerminatorDarkFate

I absolutely enjoyed Dani. I loved seeing a Hispanic woman at the center of this and the reason for hope. That spoke volumes to me! #TerminatorDarkFate
And many fans felt that the movie on the whole took the right measures needed to restore the franchise to its former glory.
Any fan of #Terminator look no further #TerminatorDarkFate brings the franchise back into what I wanted from this franchise. Fuses the best elements from every Terminator film, while injecting a much needed adrenaline shot. They said they’d be back.. THEYRE BACK
#TerminatorDarkFate knew what it had to do, and it took care of business. I really enjoyed that movie.
#TerminatorDarkFate is a complete resurgence for the Terminator franchise. It pops, it’s got spectacular action and the performances from Hamilton, Davis and Schwarzenegger. Tim Miller knocks it out of the park with his directing sensibilities.
There's no doubt that, one way or another, it's a breathtaking opening.
