Promising review: "Love Crocs! My old pair is getting smooth on the bottom which makes them unsafe to wear when it's wet so I bought a new pair. Love the color and they last forever. My first pair is over 10 years old and I still wear them!" —Carey

Get them from Amazon for $29.99+ (available in sizes 4–19, and in many colors and styles).

Psst — there are lots of different styles of Crocs at this point (like slides, flats, and sandals). You can check those out and pick up any charms for your shoes at the Crocs store on Amazon.

    3. Dr. Martens 1460 Boots let you live out your grungy punk-rock aspirations from high-school while holding up against all the clomping and stomping around you'll do in them.

Promising review: "Want to feel like a total badass? Want to purchase a pair of shoes that will last you 100 years? Do you want to feel like a military-combat fashionista? Then look no further! Doc Martens are expensive, I am the first to admit it. But they are SO WORTH IT. I was worried about all the same things I'm sure you're concerned about, dear reader. Clunkiness, frankenstein-quality, curb-stomping boots. But, clunky these are not. The leather is high quality, the boots are comfortable AF, and they look good with literally any outfit. A win, win, win, win, win!" —Ozzy

Get them from Amazon for $115+ (available in sizes 5–12 and seven styles). Check out the Dr. Martens store on Amazon for more styles!

    4. Allbirds Wool Runners have a reputation of being one of the most comfortable shoes *ever* thanks to their breathable fabric and contoured, bouncy midsole. Its shoelaces are even made from recycled plastic bottles! These merino wool runners can be tossed in the wash and set out to air dry without losing their shape.

Promising review: "This is my second time buying these shoes. They are really comfortable, but also formal enough that I can wear them to work with slacks or a dress. First pair lasted 2+ years, even with me occasionally wearing them hiking on rough terrain." —Rachel C.

Get them from Allbirds for $110+ (available in sizes 5–11 and 20 styles).

    5. Blundstone Chelsea Boots are known for their rugged durability and timeless style. They're designed to absorb impact so your feet stay pain- and blister-free all day long, making these a reliable companion for long days of walking for years to come.

Promising review: "These boots will keep your feet dry and warm and protected no matter what you get up to. I walk dogs, ride, muck out stalls, and shower off sweaty horses in them; they're comfy enough to wear ALL day in the barn and anywhere else you need to go. I've traveled in them and walked all day in them and never gotten so much as a hint of a blister. Sure, they're a bit expensive, but it took me three years of HARD use to wear out my original red pair (I finally wore a hole in them where my toe touches the outer branch of the stirrup). I knew they'd broken in a bit over time, but didn't realize how slouchy they were until I got my new pair!! This pair is just as comfy out of the box as the red pair was, so I'm looking forward to a couple of years of good wear before I need to think about boots again." —Sandy

Get them from Amazon for $137.67+ (available in sizes 6–15 and in five colors). Note that Blundstone half sizes refer only to width, not length.

    6. Clarks Desert Boots channel minimalism with clean lines, soft suede, and simple two-holes laces that make them easy to pull on and go — or kick off at airport security as you jet off on your next adventure. These vintage-y boots are durable and will last for years.

Promising review: "I read the reviews on Amazon, and I saw people were saying go up half a size. But I also read reviews on YouTube, and people there said to get true to size because they'll expand once you break them in. I went out on a limb and got true to size. I'm so happy that I did. I was a little worried because my feet are little but wide, and people were also saying that they are thin. But surprisingly, they fit perfectly with regular, non-thick socks. And they also came with some scratches already on them, so I don't have to do anything to them. If you know anything about Clark Originals Desert Boots, then you know that the older they get and the more minor scratches and scuffs they get, the better they look. The vintage look of these boots looks great with skinny jeans! The price is a little on the expensive side, but these shoes are made very well and will last for years. I strongly recommend them." —Yaa Peculiar

Get them from Amazon for $48.99+ (available in sizes 5.5–13 and 14 colors). You can find a version available in men's sizes here.

Promising review: "Excellent quality shoes. The suede is very soft on the feet. Once properly adjusted, these shoes fit perfectly. Had my first pair of Birks for 10 years and didn't want to give them up because they were so darn comfortable. Now I own two pairs (black and brown suede). Look forward to many years of comfort with these as well." —Herbert

Get them from Amazon for $89.95+ (available in sizes 4–15.5, in narrow sizes, and in 15 colors).

Promising review: "These Tevas have the same wonderful qualities I have grown to expect from ALL Teva shoes. They are easy to put on and take off and I wear them every day to walk my dog in the summer for two miles per day. Believe me, they are comfy. You can adjust the strap on top and behind your heel, so if something doesn't feel right, you just keep adjusting. My last pair of Tevas lasted EIGHT YEARS!!!! I was sad to see them go, but ordered the same style again and just put them IMMEDIATELY on and walked my dog. NO breaking in!!" —NJ Reader

Get them from Amazon for $37.90+ (available in sizes 5–13 and 30 styles). You can find a version available in men's sizes here.

These are my yard, housework, and up-on-the-roof shoes; my slippers; my vacation strollers; my boat shoes; my driving shoes. Solidly made, ruggedly protective, so durable and they mold to me. The only place I haven't worn them (though darn near) is to bed." —Old Fart

Promising review: "I bought the Adrenaline GTS 21 for my mom. She had two pairs of Adrenaline GTS 18, and they wore out after YEARS of daily walking. She wears size 10 in Brooks, so I bought her a size 10 in Adrenaline GTS 21 and she is very happy with them! She tried many other Brooks running shoes, but the Adrenaline GTS is her favorite because it is substantial (very good support, comfortable) and does not wear out quickly. I have been wearing different Brooks running shoes for over 40 years, and used to run but now walk daily. I wear Ricochet 1 and Levitate, and after trying on her GTS 21s I decided to order my own pair from Amazon! Zappos also has them if you can't find your size here!" —LT

Promising review: "Keen is one of the few brands we buy for river shoes. We live in Missouri where we float as often as we can, so we need shoes that can stand up to white water like conditions, keeps rocks out or (more realistically is easy for rocks to pass through, has a good sole for dragging the canoe through shallow water, fits a range of sizes, and lasts. The shoes last easily five years in moderate to severe use/misuse. They easily beat out the cheaper shoes for durability and comfort. When you factor in their longevity, these are as easy investment in less problems while drunk on the river." —Karen and Jen Campbell

Get them from Amazon for $69.95+ (available in men's sizes 7–17 and 25 colors). You can find a version available in women's sizes here.

Promising review: "Y’all, these boots are the best. My parents bought them for me for my 20th birthday; I’m now 28. They have made it through all these winters of nearly daily use, every rainstorm, hiking, and multiple trips. They take a minute to break in, but after about one season they will become quite supple and worth the wait. I still get compliments all the time, which is saying something for a pair of heavily worn 8-year-old boots!" —Lissy

Former BuzzFeed Shopping editor Rachel Dunkel says, "The level of comfort in every Dansko shoe is nearly incomprehensible. The insole is somewhat hard, but in a remarkably good way that almost massages the arches of my feet when I walk. It's a unique feeling that requires a little getting used to, but once I did, holy moly, it was an eye-opening experience of what shoes can be. I know that sounds dramatic, but I'm not alone — the cult-status of Danskos is real and well-deserved. If you've been struggling to find a shoe that fully supports your feet all day, give these a try. They definitely don't look like they'd be the most stable, but I never feel more sure-footed than when I'm in my Danskos. These are my newest Danskos at a year and a half old, but looking at the sole, leather, and sturdy buckle, you know they're just at the beginning of their long life. I've yet to try Dansko's original clogs, but am running out of excuses not to!"

Promising review: "I wore similar Danskos as a practicing midwife for 13 of my 23 years catching babies at a busy urban hospital practice. YES they lasted 13 years!! I was so upset I had to say goodbye to them after they finally crumbled and was DELIGHTED to find these, which I have already started to wear and expect to wear for at least another 13 years!!" —Amazon Customer

Get them from Amazon for $108+ (available in sizes 4.5–13 and five colors).

    17. Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars *might* be the most recognizable sneaker there is, and anyone who's ever owned a pair knows you can wear them down over the course of several years — and they only look better as they age.

Promising review: "I've been wearing these shoes for many years now and I've had at least a dozen pairs of just the basic black Chuck Taylors, and each holds up just as well as the one before it. Definitely an amazing workhorse of a shoe, and also timeless and stylish!" —Shawn K.

Get them from Converse for $60 (available in men's sizes 3–18 and women's sizes 5–20, in standard or wide widths, in 12 colors, and with customization).

    18. Rothy's Flats can put an end to your search for the *perfect* pair of flats, because once you switch to Rothy's it's hard to go back to that cheap pair that falls apart in a matter of months. It's recommended to go half a size up if you have narrow feet and a full size up for wider feet in this particular style!

BuzzFeed Shopping editor Natalie Brown says, "I've owned and loved my one pair of these since 2017, when a few of us first reviewed 'em. They are by far the pair of shoes I wear most often (my Birks come in close second), precisely because — besides being incredibly comfortable, especially once they form to your feet — they're so easy to wash the moment they start to smell. I usually gently hand wash 'em with a scrub brush in my tub because I live in NYC and don't have access to a washing machine in my apartment, but I've washed them in a machine several times back at my parents place and they hold up really well. TBH mine STILL look as new as they did when I first got them, and FWIW I find I can wear mine for a couple of weeks before they get stinky. I'm wearing them right now! Oh, and it's just a perk that they're made from recycled water bottles." Check out our full Rothy's flats review for more deets!

Promising review: "I love these shoes, and will slowly build up a wardrobe of them. Right now I have black and navy. The black are more than a year old (have been washed more times than I can remember) and are still in great shape, so I feel like they are worth the investment. They are incredibly comfortable. Only real downside: They do make your feet stink after a few (five to 10) wears, but then it's just time to throw them in the wash and all is well. Mainly an issue when I am wearing them day after day in the summer." —Karen W.

Get them from Rothy's for $125 (available in sizes 5–13 and in 17 colors). Rothy's flats come in a bunch of different styles, and you can check them out here!

    19. Ultraideas Memory Foam Slippers stand the test of time better than most slippers you'll find online, especially if you're not looking to break the bank on shoes you slip on when you go to the mailbox.

BTW, multiple reviewers say that they needed to order one size up!

Promising reviews: "This is my second pair of these slippers because the first one got destroyed by a Pomeranian puppy. These slippers are by far the most durable comfy slippers I’ve tried on Amazon. I’ve purchased around 10 pairs of slippers over the years and they all worn thin and fell apart within months of walking around in my hardwood floor home, but the last pair was going strong for almost a year before the pup torn into it." —djraf

"This is my second pair, the first pair lasted almost 5 years! They are snug when you first get them, but the tag warns you of this. After a day or two of wearing around the house, they break in nicely and will fit perfectly after that. I have washed them in the washing machine in a mesh bag and just left out to dry in the sun; they hold up well. Great value and will be ordering again." —Shannon Barnes

Get them from Amazon for $21.90+ (available in sizes 5–12 and seven colors). You can find a version available in men's sizes here.

    20. Timberland Waterproof Boots can come with you on a trek through the woods, a weekend of yard work, *and* out to dinner afterward styled with a cute outfit, because they're just that versatile and durable.

Promising reviews: "Great boots. Christmas present for my daughter. I've owned mine for almost 15 years and they're still in great shape." —stevenW

"I've been wearing Timberland boots for about 20 years. I live in Boston and our winters can get pretty tough with lots of snow and ice so these boots are perfect for winter. I love the style and the rugged sole, I love the color, they fit perfectly. They're always a little snug when I first buy them but with normal wear, they tend to relax after a while. Timberlands are my favorite boots for fall and winter." —A.B.

    22. Hunter Rain Boots need no introduction, but you might appreciate the shorter style, which protects your feet and ankles as you splash through puddles and mud without constricting your lower legs. The durable, high-quality rubber is 100% waterproof, because soggy socks are simply ✨ the worst ✨.

Promising review: "I love these and use them almost daily for walking my dogs around our yard. They are super comfortable and fit perfectly. They are really easy to get on and off. Seem to be constructed very well and I expect that they will last a long time. I chose these short boots rather than the tall because they are ideal for all seasons." —N. Weiss

Promising review: "These are my favorite. As a Southern Californian, I wear flip-flops year-round. The last pair of Sanuk yoga mat flip-flops I bought lasted through almost three years of constant wear (they were basically the only shoes I wore for three years, so I'm serious when I say constant). They're comfortable enough to wear for a day at Disneyland, even with arthritic joints." —beth

Promising reviews: "Had the same exact pair for like seven years now and decided it was time for a new pair. Nothing was wrong with my old pair; they had just flattened out a lot. I was worried that the new ones wouldn't be as nice as my old and that they may have changed them, but they are the exact same. So comfy and I love that they have the strap on the back to keep them on." —Blair

"I’ve always had a hard time finding flip-flops that were comfortable enough for long walks and versatile enough for nice dresses. Sanuk is that brand! After owning another pair of theirs for a few years now and wearing them almost daily with no problems, I finally decided to get another pair! For someone who’s gotten more blisters from flip flops than stars in the sky, I was very pleased to find that this fabric is soft (sooo soft!) and stretchy enough that you will NOT get blisters or sore feet even after long walks. The soles of the shoes have a generous amount of padding and the underside of the shoes do not scuff up or break down very easily. The elastic is quite strong and will not wear down quickly (the elasticity on my old ones still feel like new!)." —Steph

Promising review: "I wear these literally EVERY DAY — those shoes you slip on to dash out the door. If I could live in flip-flops, I would, and these Reefs are the best. Durable, with a slight arch support. I've tried to walk a day in those super flat, super minimal flip flops, and cannot do it. Reefs have a good cushion, and will last an entire summer or more (depending on how much you wear them, of course). These are my daily, reliable shoe in the summer." —Graciebird

"I've been wearing Reef flip-flops for over 20 years living near the beach (and it's totally a Florida thing.) They last forever and I love the way they cushion and conform to my feet!!! They also offer you another inch in height so I feel taller and more confident. I LOVE THESE NEW STYLE REEFS!!!!!! Please don't stop making them like this!!! With the black foam sole, as usual my feet tend to get a little blackish/dirty looking around my heels if I haven't exfoliated in a while, but when I'm exfoliating my feet in the shower daily the pigment washes right off. Totally worth the money and so feminine!" —B Bowles

Thesus Weekend Boots keep you cozy and supported all year long, and their minimalist design doesn't scream "I LOVE HIKING" if you aren't actually that outdoorsy (but want a pair of boots that'll last). Promising review: "I absolutely love these boots! They have a very nice padding in the sole, which makes it comfortable to wear for long periods of time and these shoes definitely fit very true to size. I love how everything about the boots is sustainable, from the tread to the shoelaces. They fit with absolutely everything, and I have gotten many compliments. I also got the red shoelaces and they look amazing on the sage boots. Just by looking at them, you can tell that they are very well made and will be very long-lasting. The packaging was great; I loved the little notecards, which really showed that customers are appreciated. All in all, these boots are great for you and the planet. :)" —Claire

Promising reviews: "Great staple for office job! They gave my outfit life and they were comfy. I typically wear an 8.5 so that’s what I ordered and it fit perfectly. I feel like the quality will last for years." —Keek

"I wear these all the time! Franco Sarto's line of shoes is worth the money because they last for a long time. I had a hard time with sizing, I'm normally a 7.5 but ended up having to get a 6.5. Only problem was that I really had to break them in, which isn't common with this brand. I stretched them in the freezer with a sandwich bag of water and that did the trick, ha! They can be worn casually or dressed up and I like the versatility. I would recommend them!" —Kavita

    30. Birdies Starling Flats feel as luxurious as they look, and unlike many pairs of flats, they skip the break-in period completely (because who has time for that?). Birdie flats have seven layers of cushion in them, plus arch and heel support, so they're the real deal if you're tired of painful flats that end up falling apart anyway.

    Birdies

Birdies is a woman-founded company that originally created a comfortable and stylish slipper that could be worn at home while hosting parties. But they quickly realized the shoes were too good to *just* be worn inside and created a do-it-all flat, combining the support of a sneaker with the softness of a slipper.

Promising reviews: "So soft and comfortable, easy to slip on and off when your body is fragile AND they made me feel like I was still putting on beautiful and real clothes. That matters. After two years of very heavy wear, I just purchased a second pair. Thanks Birdies for an amazing product. —Mary N.

"After wearing them for a few weeks, I have to say they’re the best pair of shoes I’ve owned in terms of comfort and practicality. They’re great for work, but I find myself wearing them all the time: to the grocery store, school pick up, friends’ houses…..they keep my feet warm and comfortable and are like a favorite sweater for my feet. If you’ve been considering them, please buy them! We need more companies like these that cater to not just style, but also comfort for their customers. I can’t wait to buy pair #2!" —Sana M.

Get them from Birdies for $98+ (available in sizes 5–12 and in 16 colors and patterns).
