14 Things Brighton Fans Learnt This Weekend After The Doncaster 1-0 Win

Tweets, thoughts, pictures and analysis after the 1-0 home victory over Doncaster at the Amex on Feb 8th 2014.

    1. 1-0 To The Albion

...Despite this sort of guff beforehand

"We should be getting a win against sides of the likes of Doncaster" Brighton fan on the train getting in a nice pre-match cliche there

Barnsley, Sheff Weds, Huddersfield, Yeovil, Charlton, Millwall etc etc

But we grounded out the win in the end...

    BHAFC+ALAVÉS #3points = perfect saturday

    >insert something about winning when you're not at your best being the sign of a good team< #bhafc

A much needed, if uninspiring, win today. Roar MoM - Stephen Ward. Solid. Good crosses, especially the one for the goal. What do you reckon?

    2. Results went our way...

Ipswich, Forest, Blackburn and Forest all failed to win.

    3. Back to Form ?

That man from Argentina on the score sheet and man of the match @BBCSussexSport @johnnycburger @Adamvirgs19

Never Man of the Match (Bruno ? , Solly March ?) but after 2 disallowed goals, countless non connected headers, one finally went in and he played well off David Rodriguez today.

But Oscar's not worried about the lack of goals...

OG: "One of the big things we have to improve is be more clinical in front of goal but I'm not worried, because we create chances." #bhafc

    4. Frustrated Player on the Bench ?

Missing swansea more and more. 3points lads

@KemyAgustien Kemy fella,u play for the Albion so I love ya. But please show Albion fans a little respect and not tweet stuff like this

@seagulls72 I respect the fans and the players but that doesnt mean im happy here? I want the best for all of us dont get me wrong

Swansea won 3-0. Kemy was on the bench but didn't play.

    5. We'll always love Donny fans

We lose every week we lose every week you're nothing special we lose every week. Good banter from Donny fans #bhafc #drfc

A terrific 493 Rovers fans made the trip

I just want to credit their club. They've done everything right on and off the pitch since we were on the football scrap heap together. Their stadium is 200 times better than ours. We don't need one that big admittedly but it has a bit of character about it for a new en. The acoustics are pretty good as well even though they don't make that much noise. It shows our place up as the cheap soulless bowl it is. The banners/pictures around the ground of their "legends" are a great touch as well. Queue's a mile long in the club shop, which contained some nice stuff. From quality clothing to some fantastic pictures, including ones from the last time we played there when the ground was rammed. I honestly wouldn't buy a thing from ours baring a shirt I don't think. It's full of cheap tat. Finally the way their team play is a breath of fresh air. They all play football the right way, nobody is scared to be on the ball where ever they are on the pitch. No wonder they get near 30k every week now, they do everything right. Whoever has orchestrated taking them onto the next level to what we are at from where they were has done a grand job. Yes I know they have spent too much, but they have got most of the little things right as well.

    6. Amex looking beautiful in Wind, Sun, Sleet, and Rain

    Best pix via Danny Last

    Cain Blissett

    and Josh Ensell

    and Paul Hazelwood of course

There is something about this snap of the two managers watching the game unfold. #BHAFC

    7. The Local Papers Verdict

    Andy Naylor...

1-0 to #bhafc. Big win in the context of the rest of the season.

It was a grind today but you need wins like that, especially at home, over the course of the season to challenge. #bhafc

Sponsors gave Ulloa man of the match. Must have had their backs turned when March was on. #bhafc

and Liam Hoden from the Doncaster Free Press

Much better second half from Rovers, created a few good chances but they will be left bemoaning them, couple from Sharp in particular #drfc

That diving header was a golden opportunity from Sharp, as was Coppinger's shot a few minutes later #drfc

Rovers defended doggedly again under plenty of pressure. Positives to be taken today despite the defeat #drfc

    8. Another difficult day at the Amex for Billy Sharp

The away dressing room at the Amex must be pretty special, going by the amount of time Billy Sharp spends in there #bhafc

    Soft Red Card though...

Jordan Mutch has just done exactly what I got a red card for today, and he got a yellow??? Mmmmm

    But...

I saw a slow motion replay of the incident just after and I thought the referee got it right. #drfc

    9. Strong Amex debuts for Stephens...

Dale Stephens wins possession against Doncaster Rovers. #BHAFC

Dale Stephens good touch, good workrate across the width of the pitch, good drive to attack, will bed in and be a good player for us

Rodriguez looks like a man who is a striker first and a winger second. He made numerous attacking runs on the shoulder of the last defender and was often left wanting as the throughballs he looks to thrive on never came. When the passes did come, they would come too late for his run and he would be left offside. He is clearly a hard worker and very quick; two attributes that will make him popular with the Albion faithful. As he gets used to his role and his colleagues get used to him, expect him to grow in stature and start scoring – if he gets the service he could find himself through on goal with devastating frequency.

    2 up front !!
