These detect smoke, carbon monoxide AND they last for 10 years. Nest products are expensive like most internet-connected things, but many of the reviews claimed the price tag is worth it.

2. The Mr. Coffee Wifi-Enabled Coffeemaker ($112) lives to be your coffee slave every morning!
When I wake up, I absolutely need coffee in the morning, and being able to start brewing it from my phone is fucking awesome.
Most promising review:
"Set up was straight forward. I downloaded the app. My phone found the machine with no issue. It connected to my router without issue. Then it indicated a firmware update was available which I had it to install and took less than five minutes.
I brewed some water to clean it as directed, cleaned the carafe (which is very nice compared to those glass ones I've been breaking), and got my first brew running.
Moments later I received an alert on my phone telling me my coffee was ready! It all worked flawlessly and my coffee turned out spectacular."

3. The Bluesmart Smart Carry-On Suitcase ($319) integrates a portable battery, GPS, a weight-scale, and a proximity lock all in one.

A single bulb is $60?! That's probably what you're saying right now. I thought it was a novel product at first, but colored lighting really does change how you feel about a room.

5. The Mother and 4 Motion Cookie Sensors ($177) reminds you to do things, just like your real mom!
The idea is that you affix or carry devices called "cookies" to things you need to monitor. They have a lot of sensors inside them that can detect movement, vibrations and even temperatures. So, for example, you can attach one to your pill case. If the case doesn't move within a certain amount of time, it will notify you.

"The Sen.se Mother system is really innovative. There is nothing else out there like this. The Mother system replaces so many other activity monitors, making it a bargain price and creating a clutter-less home. The fact that more sensor data and apps will come in the future, gives me a lot of excitement and more promise for this device."

6. The Rachio Smart Sprinkler Controller increases your water efficiency ($200).
The Rachio can monitor the weather and adjust sprinkler timing accordingly. It can schedule itself! A self aware sprinkler controller. What.

"There are certainly controllers out there that do one or two of these things well. But with this one, you [get] professional quality features built into a package that allows the end user convenience, the ability to save water by irrigating much more efficiently and it does it all while being very easy to use for anyone. This camera also allows you to see other public Petcube cameras. So you can peek into the lives of other people's pets and play with them remotely. The future, dude. It's here, and it's given us features I didn't even know cared about. I don't even have a pet.

"I am very happy with this camera. So much fun. I can check it while I'm at work and see what everyone's up too.
I love playing with the laser pointer with my cats. They have a fantastic time. I can talk to them through it as well. I've used to when leaving the house for a bit so I can leave the dogs out and let them know through the camera that I can still see any questionable behavior."

There is a lot of really questionable content on the internet. The KoalaSafe will keep your kids' usage and what kind of content they're seeing under control.

14. The August Smart Lock ($230) turns your phone into the key.
This particular lock will work with Apple's HomeKit. So if you own an iOS device, you can ask Siri to unlock the door for you, without opening any app.
