15 Things That Will Make Your Life Ridiculously Easy

Hella smart things for hella smart people.

IT'S OFFICIAL: EVERYTHING HAS A COMPUTER IN IT NOW.

1. The Nest Protect smoke & carbon monoxide alarm ($99) keeps you alive if there is a fire or a leak.

These detect smoke, carbon monoxide AND they last for 10 years. Nest products are expensive like most internet-connected things, but many of the reviews claimed the price tag is worth it.

Most promising review:

"All in all, I think that this is a great product that is pricey for what it is. It has numerous advantages over traditional smoke/CO detectors and if you think those advantages outweigh the added cost I can certainly recommend it."

2. The Mr. Coffee Wifi-Enabled Coffeemaker ($112) lives to be your coffee slave every morning!

When I wake up, I absolutely need coffee in the morning, and being able to start brewing it from my phone is fucking awesome.

Most promising review:

"Set up was straight forward. I downloaded the app. My phone found the machine with no issue. It connected to my router without issue. Then it indicated a firmware update was available which I had it to install and took less than five minutes.

I brewed some water to clean it as directed, cleaned the carafe (which is very nice compared to those glass ones I've been breaking), and got my first brew running.

Moments later I received an alert on my phone telling me my coffee was ready! It all worked flawlessly and my coffee turned out spectacular."

3. The Bluesmart Smart Carry-On Suitcase ($319) integrates a portable battery, GPS, a weight-scale, and a proximity lock all in one.

Most promising review:

"It’s perfect for travelers who are looking for a bag that enables them to be quick and efficient with their packing and trip (multiple pockets, pouches, and of course some technological perks). The charger alone is worth it! I’ve walked, cabbed, bussed, trained, and flown with my Bluesmart – it’s really easy to transport and carry around. The compartment for the laptop is amazing. Soft padding, multiple compartments, some with zippers, feels safer in there than in my briefcase. I’d say ideal use would be a week-long trip, particularly when there are transit and/or space issues involved. It’s the ideal carry-on for the frequent flier."

4. The Philips Hue Wireless Lighting ($60 to $65) classes up even the most starkly decorated dorm rooms.

A single bulb is $60?! That's probably what you're saying right now. I thought it was a novel product at first, but colored lighting really does change how you feel about a room.

Most promising review:

"We quickly realized these are enhancements to our home which are totally worth the price. Our expectations were far exceeded and in 3 weeks we went from the 3 pack starter kit to 8 bulbs, yes 5 more bulbs at $60 each and we are totally happy with them. We were sold this technology after only a month and will never go back, this is the future of lighting."

5. The Mother and 4 Motion Cookie Sensors ($177) reminds you to do things, just like your real mom!

The idea is that you affix or carry devices called "cookies" to things you need to monitor. They have a lot of sensors inside them that can detect movement, vibrations and even temperatures. So, for example, you can attach one to your pill case. If the case doesn't move within a certain amount of time, it will notify you.

Most promising review:

"The Sen.se Mother system is really innovative. There is nothing else out there like this. The Mother system replaces so many other activity monitors, making it a bargain price and creating a clutter-less home. The fact that more sensor data and apps will come in the future, gives me a lot of excitement and more promise for this device."

6. The Rachio Smart Sprinkler Controller increases your water efficiency ($200).

The Rachio can monitor the weather and adjust sprinkler timing accordingly. It can schedule itself! A self aware sprinkler controller. What.

Most promising review:

"There are certainly controllers out there that do one or two of these things well. But with this one, you [get] professional quality features built into a package that allows the end user convenience, the ability to save water by irrigating much more efficiently and it does it all while being very easy to use for anyone. Highly recommended."

7. The Amazon Echo ($180) makes you feel like you have a personal assistant.

The Amazon Echo continues to be one of the best voice-controlled devices money can buy. If you haven't already, read our review of it here!

Most promising review:

"I've never purchased anything before that made me smile. That's just the kind of grumpy guy I am. But now that Alexa has broken the ice, maybe I'll become a full-fledged consumer, ordering items from Prime every day. The one thing I'm sure of is that Alexa will be here at my side to help."

8. The Petcube ($149) lets you spy on your pet and play with them via laser.

This camera also allows you to see other public Petcube cameras. So you can peek into the lives of other people's pets and play with them remotely. The future, dude. It's here, and it's given us features I didn't even know cared about. I don't even have a pet.

Most promising review:

"I am very happy with this camera. So much fun. I can check it while I'm at work and see what everyone's up too.

I love playing with the laser pointer with my cats. They have a fantastic time. I can talk to them through it as well. I've used to when leaving the house for a bit so I can leave the dogs out and let them know through the camera that I can still see any questionable behavior."

9. The KoalaSafe Family Friendly Wireless Router ($99) protects the more innocent lives in your life from internet horrors.

There is a lot of really questionable content on the internet. The KoalaSafe will keep your kids' usage and what kind of content they're seeing under control.

Most promising review:

"Daily power struggles, asking our kids to get off the computer, to get off the iPhone, to turn off the Roku and come to dinner. We're tough and firm parents, no-nonsense with many limits and yet -- these daily arguments were wearing us down. Add to that one kid becoming a strong-willed teenager with a love of pushing limits. KoalaSafe -- within the first week -- brought down the tension in our household by 50%."

10. The Blink Home Security Camera System ($99+) keeps an unblinking-eye on your home.

The camera is powered by 2 AA batteries that last more than a year between replacements, so you can put these in the more remote areas of your home.

Most promising review:

"WOW... WOW is the only place I can start. Not everybody can afford to spend hundreds of dollars on a security camera system. But our stuff is just as important to us as the people who can afford high priced camera systems. I love this system."

11. The PetSafe Automatic Feeder ($130) feeds your needy cat.

All of my friends have cats that will give them shit for not feeding them at ungodly hours of the night. Now you can solve all of your cat feeding problems with this!

Most promising review:

"SO all in all, I LOVE this feeder. Everyone who comes over first looks at it like I'm insane, but then they see it in action, and immediately ask me where I got it. It is a life saver. There's nothing better than hearing it go off at 6 am, hearing your cat sprint to the kitchen to eat, and then have it come back to bed happy with a full belly."

12. The Sense ($129) is a sound machine, sleep monitor, and smart alarm all in one.

Everyone talks about how little sleep they get. Now you can keep a log of it and flaunt about how tired you are!

Most promising review:

"The sleep pill has reported my sleep times within a few minutes of actual every night so far. What I really like is that I don't need to remember to perform a procedure before going to bed, such as wearing a gadget or pressing a button. Just go to bed and it does all the work. Would purchase again."

13. The WeMo Switch lets you control your plugs remotely ($40).

14. The August Smart Lock ($230) turns your phone into the key.

This particular lock will work with Apple's HomeKit. So if you own an iOS device, you can ask Siri to unlock the door for you, without opening any app.

This version of the August Smart Lock is so new that there are no reviews yet for it. However here is one from their last version:

Most promising review:

"I have had the August lock now for about a month and am very impressed so far. The lock works as advertised. Most people don't have a need for such a device but I live alone in a 1 bed condo and am on the road frequently. I constantly need to allow access to my place to others for various reasons so the August lock is a perfect fit for me."

It's real and people generally dislike it. DON'T BUY IT!

Unless you want to? Get it here.

Most promising review:

"So there I was, trying to pick up the pieces of my broken life. A severe strain had been put on my third marriage due to financial shortcomings. All of our money was going to eggs. my kids were sick (from eating rotten eggs). I couldn't hold a job because I had to be at the grocery store (just in case), and then, when it seemed that things couldn't get any worse, there it was! the EGGMINDER! This product saved my life!"
