Deviantart artist SlumberPoppy created this fantastic Alternate Universe (AU) of the 1999 hit anime "BEYBLADE" called the "Beyfantasy" or "Beyfanta" wherein the characters are donning RPG-inspired designs. The fan series began in 2010 and is currently on-going as the artist has been uploading sneak peeks and beta designs of the second and third season characters of Beyblade. The Beyfantasy has gained popularity over the years as fans began creating Beyfantasy OCs, usually transforming their Beyblade OCs into Beyfanta OCs. The series also receives a number of fanart and fics. People around the world have also cosplayed the artist's designs! Rumour has it that the artist is working on a manga/doujin and/or an animation and/or a game on the series.

Bladebreakers

The first set of characters introduced in 2010 were Samurai Takao, Ninja Kai, Cleric Max and Monk Lei. Character backgrounds were inspired by the canon personalities and stories in the BEYBLADE anime/manga with a few differences. Descriptions include stats (Atk, Mgc, Def, Spd) and skills. The artist mixed elements of both Japanese and Nelvana (US) dub for the team name and character traits.

White Tigers

The White Tigers look like Street Fighter inspired characters. Obviously their fighting style is martial arts much like how they are in the BEYBLADE anime. The characters have their respective flowers such as Champion Rai donning a Lotus belt. Ray/Lei's childhood sweetheart Mariah makes her appearance as Berserker Mao with a toned down pink fashion and a peony hairclip.

The artist worked hard on designing this team, especially Forward Eddy's shoes. There is so much creativity in the weapon designs because the All Starz team in the BEYBLADE anime were a sports-oriented team. In the Beyfantasy, they specialize in status effect attacks.

Majestics

The Majestics Beyfantasy team was released on the artist's birthday and this team is her personal favorite especially because of Musketeer Olivier. Summoner Ralf is looking very handsome and Pyroknight Johnny and Gladiator Giancarlo looks very similar to their anime designs. For a team that is prideful and divided in the anime, their skills seem to be party-oriented.

Blitzkrieg Boys

Fan-favorite Blitzkrieg Boys is the final team so far that has made its appearance. The artist had to redo their official arts for improvement and hence their release was delayed. Vagabond Yuriy is to die for as he looks like every fangirl's dream bad boy. Vagabond Yuriy also won the Beyfantasy character popularity poll (along with Berserker Mao and Cleric Max.) Beyfanta hardcore fans shipped Yuriy with Boris because of their heartwarming childhood story in the canon novel and the Beyfantasy story.

These designs are not final but they are there to give an idea on how the characters will be conceptualized for the release. On the left are Salima and Kane from the Psykicks and on the right are Wizard King and Witch Queen.

Beyfantasy Fan Favorite: Cleric Max

Cleric Max is the people's choice in the Beyfantasy series and seems to serve as its mascot. There is something very fitting about Max being a cleric because of his defensive style of play in the BEYBLADE anime as well as his personality. The three versions are his default, part two outfit and his tournament outfit dubbed by fans as "DarkWater Max" because according to his profile- he has acquired offensive skills apart from his support skills.

The Beyfantasy is on-going and is currently recovering from a two-year hiatus. The next release would include the Elementalists Saint Shields scheduled for 2015. One of the characters, Water Elementalist Mariam (who is predicted to be Cleric Max's love interest), has been released in advanced (as seen above.)

SlumberPoppy or "Poppy" or "Viii" is a Filipino deviantart artist since 2008 and is known for her anime fanart skills, watercolor paintings, cosplay, and pleasant-spontaneous personality in her dA blogs which include slice of life comics and humor. She led the Beyblade fandom for years through her blog and kept the fandom updated with Beyblade news. She was also the leading figure and moderator (2005-2007) in the Naruto forums for the Temari and ShikaTema fans and was the owner of the Temari shrine resource site "Tempest Wind" (now closed.) She is an avid fan of other childhood shows such as Sailor Moon and DIGIMON. Her low-key yet influential charm continues to inspire fellow artists through her examples, making her well-received and admired in the community.
