10 Reasons To Oppose Increase In Correspondence Tuition

Meet at the Student Centre at 3:45pm on December 1st to stand in silent protest against this.

1. Students at Mount Allison already pay some of the highest tuition in all of Canada

For example, tuition at the University of Winnipeg is only $3,303 (less than half fees at MtA).... but you also have to live in Winnipeg so maybe it balances out

2. There is a freeze on tuition fees in New Brunswick right now

Why does this freeze feel more like a classroom in Dunn when it should feel like walking to meal hall in February?

3. If you're an international student the cost per course will be over 1,600

4. The administration reported a deficit, but with adjustments, there could be a $97,000 surplus

There probably was going to be a deficit because they gave students back so much money after the strike? No, wait... Maybe it was from the money they spent to make sure we actually have fast, reliable internet? Hold on it can't be that either... I guess chicken burgers must just be really expensive to supply in meal hall.

5. There was 0 student consultation on this

Probably because they know we would have been like "no no no no no"

6. The administration seems to think we should have to carry their financial burden

This is probably a good time to repeat the fact that we pay the highest tuition in ALL of New Brunswick

7. For the price of 1 correspondence course, you could get chicken tenders at the Independent on Tuesday for 4 years

Or you could be like Oprah and buy a box to put under every seat in crabtree M14 and then stand up in class be the hero when you tell everyone "YOU GET CHICKEN! AND YOU GET CHICKEN! AND YOU!"

8. You are already paying for 6 full courses per semester

This is despite the fact that the average number of courses taken is less than 5. I'm not Dr. Keliher, but somehow I still know this math doesn't add up.

9. Even if you haven't taken a correspondence course yet, you may NEED to in order to be able to complete your degree

Especially if you are in Sociology or Poli Sci, have ever experienced there being 2 courses you need to take scheduled at the same time, or if it's 4th year and a course you need is at 8:30 because... No.

10. Because we need to show the university that we will not let them try to implement this without a fight

Do it for the swans. It's what they would want us to do.
