So this is Gellért Hill in Budapest, Hungary. 235 meters tall, Gellért Hill is on the Buda side of Budapest overlooking the Danube.
At the top of the hill sits the Citadella (Citadel), a Hungarian fortress with the Liberty Statue.
As you may have noticed the Citadella is on the top of a hill and if you look closely you will see that the hill leading up to the Citadella is basically just a forest.
At about 3:00 AM on our last day in Budapest, my friend and I had the amazing idea of hiking up to the Citadella to watch the sunrise. It would have been great except half way up on our way up the gravel path we were walking on, there were no more lamps. It was that awkward moment when we've walked so far that we didn't want to stop but were still relatively far from the top. But, iPhone flashlight in hand, we continued on.
Finally after what felt like hours of paranoid walking in darkness with only the tiny light from our phones guiding us, we saw the dark outline of the huge statue.
We had made it.
