A Kurt Cobain Quote About Donald Trump Is Going Viral, But It's Fake

A fake quote attributed to Cobain claims he foresaw "someone like Donald Trump" getting elected.

According to a quote attributed to Kurt Cobain, the late Nirvana front man predicted back in 1993 that "someone like Donald Trump" would one day be elected president. It's totally fake.

A version of the quote first made the rounds in the summer, but it has returned with a vengeance following Trump's election.

According to Snopes.com, which debunked the hoax when it first popped up, the quote likely originated with a pro-Trump Facebook page known for spreading misinformation.

Versions of the Cobain meme have been shared tens of thousands of times on Facebook and other social networks in recent days.

There is no record of Cobain having ever said this, and it's unlikely the singer would have had much of an opinion about Donald Trump's political chances.

Although the businessman had periodically mused about a political career, it would be many years before he mounted a serious campaign for office. Trump also suffered a string of high-profile business failures in the early '90s, so the characterization of him as a successful tycoon not beholden to anyone is at odds with his business record at the time.

And if all that weren't enough, this particular image also misspells Kurt Cobain's name. 😧
