18 Struggles Only Filipinos Who Suck At Speaking Tagalog Will Understand

Ang mamatay nang dahil sa 'ng' at 'nang.'

    1. When the person you're talking to says a Tagalog word and you have no idea what it means.

    2. And you feel stupid for not knowing, but you also don't wanna ask because they might think you're stupid.

    3. Especially when a stranger comes up to you and asks for directions or whatever.

    4. You're always that one person who's always lost in group conversations.

    5. Which means there are a lot of moments when you don't always get the joke.

    6. And there are also moments when you just pretend you know what they're talking about so as not to look like an idiot.

    7. Most of the time you just guess what a certain Tagalog word means based on how they sound.

    8. When your friends make fun of the fact that Tagalog isn't your strongest suit.

    9. When you try to explain why you can't speak the language well even though you're Filipino.

    10. Which sucks, because they almost always assume it's because you're born rich.

    11. "Ng" and "Nang" are your worst enemies.

    12. And don't even get me started on Tagalog essays.

    13. When your Tagalog-speaking friends try to teach you, you don't know if you should trust them or not.

    14. And they always ask you to say a Tagalog tongue twister.

    15. Which you're only gonna regret later when you realize how stupid you must have sounded.

    16. When you meet a fellow Tagalog noob, you instantly feel like you're home.

    17. But it's not like you're not trying to learn.

    18. That's why you feel ecstatic when you can finally pronounce and understand a Tagalog word you never knew before.
