I believe it is safe to assume that most of our friends are not exactly the same. Some of them are wild and loud while others are quiet and maybe even a little awkward. Our friends circle is as diverse as the animal kingdom, yet that is why we always have a go-to person for nearly any situation we find ourselves in.

However, of all the unique kinds of people in this world, there is one that everybody needs in their life, and that is a writer. There are so many useful qualities within the person who always seems to have a pen in-hand that nobody should go a day in their life without.

1. They are the ultimate wingman/wingwoman.

Writers have a way with words, even when it's not the written word. They always seem to know what to say, which makes them the perfect sidekick should you ever need someone to tell you exactly what to say to the cute girl at the bar or how to sweet talk your boss into giving you that promotion. If you really wanted to go above and beyond, maybe they will even write a poem you can use to swoon any victim right under your thumb.

2. They are over-thinkers.

Do you consider yourself to be an over-thinker? You have no idea what over-thinking is until you become a writer. Writers have to make sure their work is near perfect before submitting it, so imagine how many times they have to read over their writing to find the mistakes and wonder if this phrase was too much or if they should add more here or there! It's a nearly never-ending process of revising and self-doubt, so if you are ever in need of somebody to over-analyze your papers, statements, or thoughts for any signs of imperfection, you know who to call.

3. They are your shoulder to cry on after rejection.

If anyone knows how to handle rejection, it is a writer. I believe any other writer can agree that a majority of our work has been rejected more than it has been approved. Rejection always stings, but writers must become mostly unaffected by this kind of defeat and keep going if they wish to become successful. Should you ever be rejected, anything from asking someone on a date or being denied a special gig, nobody will understand more than your writing friend.

4. They can handle your criticism.

Speaking of rejection, writers also have to become accustomed to handling other's criticism. In fact, it is the criticism they receive that makes them better writers. So don't feel like you have to hold back your honesty. Let them know how you really feel about their outfit or tell them they have a horrendous taste in music. Trust me, they can stomach it.

5. They are extremely optimistic.

Contrary to popular belief, writing isn't the easiest job in the world. This specific industry is always changing and becomes more and more competitive and challenging. Any non-writer working in this field would most likely end up having numerous panic attacks, but writers remain optimistic through it all. Why? It stems from the great amount of passion they have for what they do. This passion and optimism is contagious, so keep your writer friends close on a rainy day.

6. They keep you focused.

In a world with many distractions, writers must be self-disciplined. Writing requires a lot of focus, and if they allow the distractions to keep them from their work, they will never get the job done. If you ever need a person that is going to force you to sit down and get serious, your writer friend is just who you need.

7. They will support you to never give up.

Life is hard, and it will push us down and challenge us daily. Many writers know that determination is the key to success, and patience is the secret behind determination. When you have had a bad day and just feel like giving up, they understand. They will listen to you, support you, encourage you to keep your head up, and then most likely write about it.

Writers are an interesting group of people and maybe at times difficult to understand. At the end of the day, their passion and thoughtfulness are great qualities in the people you'll want to have around during good and hard times, and they are also the people to rely on whenever you need a pen.
