Here Are 26 Unintentional ASMR Scenes In TV And Movies That Give Me The Chills

I wish I had a teacher that spoke like Miss Honey 🥺

I'm sure you know what ASMR is, but if you don't, it's described as a tingly sensation you get when you hear certain sounds.

In the world of ASMR. there are loads of creators on YouTube and TikTok that have made it one of the biggest trends. But if you're obsessed like me, you may have caught these sounds in movies and TV.

So I put together some TV and movie scenes that have the best ASMR sounds – I hope you’re ready!

    1. The quill writing in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

    Warner Bros. Pictures

When I was younger, I always found this scene very unsettling because of the creepy music. but now that I'm older, I've grown to love the spookiness. Harry reading out every word he writes triggers my ASMR, and I can’t help following the strokes of every word he writes, which makes me more mesmerised. Also, this isn't ASMR related, but Voldemort/Tom Riddle responds faster than my crush.

    2. Voldemort's whispers in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

I believe Voldemort could've been hired as an ASMRtist, and you can't tell me otherwise.

    3. The fire and fluttering sounds in Pan's Labyrinth.

    Warner Bros. Pictures

If you’ve watched this film from start to finish, you’ll know that there’s a concentration on sound, especially in the beginning, with the focus on Ofelia's breathing alone. You get an eerie feeling throughout, from the creaky floorboards to the cricket. It all adds to your anticipation, making everything about this movie *chef's kiss*

    4. The mixing sounds and Peg's soothing voice in Edward Scissorhands.

    20th Century Fox

Respectfully, I can only take a few tips from Peg, but how she conducts this scene through her concentration and small head tilts are so accurate. And the dabbing around the camera? Art!

    5. The squeaky, spraying, and stitching sounds in Toy Story 2.

Pixar never disappoints when it comes to the amount of detail in their movies, and it pretty much makes the ASMR come to life. There's actually too much to unravel here, but this scene is a work of art from start to finish.

    6. The cream scoops and cutting sounds in Inglorious Basterds.

I don't know about you, but I think this scene is personally targeting me to eat more cake, and you know what? I'm not even mad! That one little scoop of cream wasn't cheeky enough. Yes, French makes my heart flutter non-stop, but I can't take my eyes off the strudel and the flakes after she cuts it.

    7. Elio repeating his own name over and over in Call Me By Your Name.

    Sony Pictures Classics

Have you ever tried to be happy for someone while holding back tears? Well, this scene portrays this perfectly. From the intense atmosphere to Elio's nervousness, we really feel his emotions inside and out. The ASMR heightens as we hear the shakiness in his voice and the breathing becoming more rapid, making it a brilliant scene that I could never forget.

    8. Dwight's whispering and eating sounds in The Office US.

Aside from this scene being absolutely hilarious, Dwight fully taps into some real ASMR. The things he says are...questionable, but this moment of control through whispers is satisfying, to say the least.

    9. The whipped cream, grating, and blow torch sounds in The Simpsons Movie.

I don't know if I'm more impressed with how quick Flanders made it or how delicious it looks. And if this makes your mouth water as much as mine, you can even attempt to make his iconic hot cocoa yourself!

    10. The slow tea stirring and rain sounds in Get Out.

    Universal Pictures

Every time I watch this scene, it feels like I'm being put under a spell as we witness Chris go from cool, calm, and collected to uneasy. The scratching of the chair, the scrapping of the teacup, and the word 'sink' somehow make you feel all light and feathery even through the intensity.

    11. The wind, water, and wave sounds in Ponyo.

Ponyo stands out from the rest because of the colourfulness, and amazing sounds throughout. These things make the film have a sense of personality all on its own, and I think that's what grabbed my attention in the first place. I mean, do you hear those water and rain sounds? The best I've ever heard!

    12. Miss Honey's calming voice in Matilda.

You rarely come across teachers like Miss Honey, which is why she's such a likeable character, and somebody we all love. It's not just her calm voice, but the motherly nature she possesses. When it comes to kind teachers, she’s basically the blueprint!

    13. The chess pieces and clock pressing in The Queen's Gambit.

    Netflix

This scene starts off very noisy, but as Beth and Benny start to play you can see people taking notice, and a crowd slowly build up with subtle movements here and there. In addition to the other notable sounds we get to hear the clock ticking, intense breathing, and the ruffling of Beth's money. I find myself watching it multiple times because it's very addictive not only because it's fast, but you're just waiting to see what happens next.

    14. Peter Griffin drinking, crunching, and speaking through a radio in Family Guy.

I never thought Peter Griffin on radio would be so soothing, but here we are.

    15. The typing sounds in Pretty in Pink.

    Paramount Pictures

I love how innocent this scene is, and how it focuses on Andie's facial expressions alone. It shows that not everything has to be explained through words as her curiosity and shyness make the scene, along with the keyboard tapping.

    16. Tywin writing letters and sealing them in Game of Thrones.

    HBO

What makes this scene – other than the actors themselves – are the short moments of silence that make you want to fall into a deep slumber. Cersei doesn't talk while these sounds are being carried out, and the short breaks in between conversation are very effective. But I just need the sealing with the wax to be made into its own video, then I'll be satisfied to the fullest!

    17. Tess putting makeup on Ali in Burlesque.

There's something so beautiful about connecting with someone through makeup, so this scene gives me all the feels.

    18. Ms. Patricia's soft speaking, hair brushing, and jar tapping in Split.

Ms. Patricia, you are scary, but boy do you make some sensational sounds.

    19. The toast crunching between Ignacio and Sister Encarnación in Nacho Libre.

This started as an ASMR, but then I found myself laughing at the rest of the scene.

    20. The soft speaking, head massages, and the pen & paper noises in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Before ASMR was even a thing, we had Onaya feeding us quality relaxation from outer space. This has helped me go to sleep a few times, but we definitely need an hour special from this lady right here!

    21. The rain droplets, beer, and chocolate wrapper sounds in The Garden Of Words.

    CoMix Wave Films

The speech here alone can make me fall into a blissful sleep, but everything in this scene is pure magic. The sounds are realistic, making you want to turn up the volume and get drawn into the moment these two strangers are sharing.I feel like they focus on aligning the atmosphere with what the characters are feeling or going through – so I believe there's a reason why they always reunite when it rains.

    22. The shaving sounds and Moneypenny's voice in Skyfall.

Damn, I have a British accent, but even I envy Naomie’s voice –  why ain’t mine like that? It’s very seductive, but not overwhelming to the point where I will feel squeamish or cringed out, and that’s what makes this scene absolute perfection!

    23. Tim’s deep, whispering voice in American Dad.

I hate to admit it, but the slow cooker guy gave me all the tingles. All I can think about is "The slower the cook, the better the taste."

    24. The whispering between Mark and Jeremy in Peep Show.

    Channel 4

I have to give my props to the camera work because it felt like a personal ASMR. Sometimes you want to feel like the person on your screen is talking to you directly, even if it's them whispering about an awful play. But all jokes aside, this made me want to go and watch Heat.

    25. The sand and stitching sounds in the opening scene of Coraline.

    Focus Features

Seeing the process of something being made in just a few clips has always captivated me, and I love the care and delicacy shown in this scene.

    26. And finally, the glass shattering, cutting, and sparking sounds in The Nightmare Before Christmas.

I'm a Tim Burton stan, so I may be a little biased when it comes to his work, but we can't miss this masterpiece! The music in this scene is dramatic, but not overly so. You can still hear everything he's doing in order to make this experiment happen, but the music doesn’t take over or become too much. This is one of my favourite ASMR scenes because of the calculated volume control, and the small but very distinctive sounds.
