10 Reasons Why You Should Hire Me

As a recent graduate, looking for a job in the media/TV/Film Industry, I though that it might be a good idea to post an 'open' cover letter and give employers 10 reasons why I should be hired. I know that I'm probably not the first to post something like that, but I promise that it's worth the read :)

1. I am a hard working individual

I graduated uni with 2:1 while I was also working 20-25 hrs a week, Monday to Friday at a beauty store. Thus, I am a good organizer, a team player and a go-getter.

2. I'm International!

I have lived in 4 different countries – Bulgaria, Scotland, Spain and currently Mexico, where I came trying to pursue one of my many dreams and gain experience in the Hispanic TV industry. And I'm still working on it! What I enjoy about my experience, however, is that I get to know a new culture, learn what people are interested in and communicate with individuals from different backgrounds.

3. I'm Creative!

I’ve been writing short stories, essays etc. since I was 7. And many of them got published. I am also currently working on a film script. I can write about many different topics, come up with as many ideas as needed and quickly turn them into a quality video.

4. I'm Good with Computers

I’m proficient in all usual suspects plus Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro. So that shouldn’t be an issue.

5. I love mainstream cinema so much that I wrote my dissertation on it!

My University dissertation was called Still Waiting for a Prince? A Study of the Influence Feminism has had on Disney’s Portrayal of Female Characters. It reflects not only my interest in mainstream cinema but also my view on popular movements such as Feminism. It further shows that I can put 2 and 2 together and create a topic, written from a different perspective. If you would like to read it, please let me know.

6. I might not have enough professional experience but I'm confident in my abilities

I should probably mention that although I do not have professional experience in a TV/media environment (my studies and part time job didn’t give me the chance to apply for any internships), I feel confident that I can do the job. So please give me a shot 

7. I'm a delight!

I am a positive, friendly and dedicated person and get along with everyone.

8. I'm a team player!

Although that I feel perfectly confident working alone, I also believe that team work = dream work.

9. I'm Well-Informed!

I am naturally curious so I always read the news (and yes, that includes the gossip as well).

10. I Can Do This!

And last but not least, as a film graduate, I like to compare myself to popular TV/ film characters (and yes, I’m a nerd). So currently I think I’m quite similar to Rachel from Friends – I might not have a lot of experience but I know I have the skills and the ambition to do my job properly if I’m given a chance.
