Let me guess. You've played the game 2048 a thousand times and can't seem to break that last level (or maybe you're not there yet). You played it many different ways, including the annoyingly cute Dog version, the dreadful Justin Beiber one, or even the 5x5 board. Don't worry, you're not alone. Let me walk you through 4 tips to help you show the rest of the people on the bus that you're not stupid.

No, I'm not an expert at this game, nor do I fully understand the logic behind it, like how the new numbers appear. However, I have done my research after being frustrated too many times and I was even lucky enough to get some tips from a hipster on the bus.

Yes, I know, by saying hipster I pretty much ensured you'll disregard every piece of advice I'm about to give. But in his defence, I watched him beat it in the first 12 minutes of the bus ride. So he seemed to know what he was talking about even if his glasses were just lens-less frames. I'm just here to pass on the advice I have come across; take it or leave it.

This game isn't easy for the most people out there, genius or otherwise. . Even my friend who literally has a degree in Mathematics gave it a go and failed. A friend of mine once told me her friend beats this game on a weekly basis and has beaten the harder versions of the game multiple times. I haven't met someone like that but if you have, smack them across the face and ask them for advice (maybe not in that order) and they will probably give you some of the/all 4 tips I've shared with you here.

1. Organization Is King

Arrange your board from highest to lowest with the highest number in a bottom corner. No, you don't need to use the bottom (like in the picture). Just decide on a side to start building on and stick to that. This will make it easier to connect lower numbers together as you advance. You also will be able to avoid having 2's and 4's sit in inconvenient spots. If you keep things orderly from the beginning, it will be easier to connect smaller numbers together. That way you won't have a problem accessing those larger numbers when you need them.

In order to ensure that the largest number stays in the corner, always keep your bottom row filled. This will make it so that moving side to side won't affect the bottom row.

2. Keep The Organization Going

It's important that you keep the organization going, so much so that even the second last line (above your last line) needs to be organized just like in the first tip but reversed. That way grouping numbers together chronologically is made easy throughout the game. This picture shows what I mean.

3. Don't Go Up

Don't use the Up arrow unless you have no other choice. This follows the same idea as the first two tips in keeping things organized. When you use the Up arrow, you allow for the bottom row's organization to become compromised by an unwanted smaller number. It might seem like you're making those bigger numbers more accessible but really you're just spreading out the empty tiles. Keep as many empty tiles together to ensure you stay in the game longer.

4. Always Be Thinking About The Long-Game

Don't be too quick to join larger numbers together. You need more 64's and 32's than you think throughout the game. Your instincts will make you want to make more 256's because you're working towards that kind of goal. But along the way you will need many smaller numbers to make those bigger numbers. Don't move everything around on the board in order to combine two larger numbers together. If you have 2 of the same big numbers on opposite sides of the board, don't screw up your organization in order to get them together; It's not worth it.
