13 Times Will Smith’s Acting Made You Cry Actual Tears

In The Pursuit Of Happyness, after being evicted and locked out of his home, Chris Gardner convinces his son that they're hiding from dinosaurs in a cave, putting paper towels on the bathroom floor and sleeping there because they had nowhere else to go. When someone comes to the door, Will's character breaks down in tears and so does the viewer.

2. When Chris Gardner finally got the position he’d been working for and cried tears of joy while clapping.

As emotionally taxing as The Pursuit Of Happyness is, it ends on a high note when Chris Gardner is told he's gotten the job he's gone through so much for, and his happy tears make you weep on his behalf.

3. When Carlton got a gun to feel safe after Will took a bullet for him.

The two are at ATM when someone tries to rob 'em, and Will gets in front of a bullet aimed at Carlton, leading to him becoming paranoid and acquiring a gun. It all comes to an emotional head when Will demands he give him the weapon in the hospital.

4. When Robert Neville had to kill his dog, Sam.

This scene was so brutal because his dog is his only friend in the world, given to him by his daughter before she passed away, and now his beloved pet is infected, turning into a darkseeker, and he has to put her down.

5. When Will confessed to the family that Carlton had mistaken his drugs for vitamins.

Will is getting burnt out from working, basketball, and school, so he acquires some drugs to give him a boost. When Carlton mistakes them for Vitamin E, he ends up in the hospital and the family thinks Will saved him, until will admits it's actually his fault.

6. When Hancock tells the sad story of not knowing who he is or how he came to be.

All he knows is he got a fractured skull trying to stop a mugging and woke up in a Miami hospital a changed person, but him questioning how terrible a person he must've been if nobody claimed him is so sad.

7. In Bad Boys 2 when Mike helps grill Marcus’ daughter’s date, Reggie.

Everyone remembers the gut-wrenching moment on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in which Will's dad ditched him after years of being an absentee father, leading to this powerful scene. Much respect to the late, great James Avery (Uncle Phil) as well, who was equally phenomenal in this scene.

In Seven Pounds, Will's character, Ben is searching for people to give gifts to, but he wants to confirm how good they are. His testing of Ezra is absolutely horrible, and he's clearly shocked by himself after the things he says.

Everything comes to a head at the end of Seven Pounds as we see Ben's plan, and understand why he wants to end his life to save and improve the lives of others. That doesn't make him killing himself any less excruciating.
