1. Bisexuality is real

There has been numerous scientific evidence (you can read more here and here). Also, there has been scientific evidence that tries to disprove it. However, these studies are usually full of loopholes and are incomplete. Most focus only on sexual arousal and ignore many other aspects that deal with bisexuality. Most have small sample sizes and are overall not good experiments. Why are people making conclusions off of these bad studies in the first place? Not cool.

2. About half of LGBTQ community identifies as bisexual

Perhaps another much simpler fact that proves that bisexuality exists is the millions of Americans who identify as such. An estimated 3.5% of the American population identify as LGBTQ, and about 1.8% identify as bi. That's a little more than half of the whole LGBTQ community! Isn't that crazy? It's the single largest group in the LGBTQ community, yes the most ignored and erased from conversation.

3. Bisexuality in mainstream media is a huge problem

A major problem in the LGBTQ community is representation in media. Representation is important because it gives our LGBTQ youth someone to relate to and someone to look up to. It validates their identities and their life. It also serves to educate people who are not familiar with the topics, the same people who are more likely to spread false information and negative stereotypes. While gay and lesbian representation has increased over the last few years, the same has not been for bisexual representation. The very few times bisexuality is represented, it is mainly bisexual women, and often done so in an inaccurate and defamatory way that ultimately does more harm than good for the bisexual community. This misrepresentation perpetuates the negative stereotypes that contribute to the erasure and discrimination of bisexual individuals.

4. Biphobia also comes from within the LGBTQ community

What? How? Why would a member of the same community discriminate bisexuals? Sadly, bisexuals are many times erased from the community and faced with hostility. Other members in the community aren't exempt from being biphobic. Much of the negative stereotypes associated with bisexuality are shared by others in the LGBTQ community. Many refuse to date bisexuals for many reasons, but most stem from prejudice and a lack of education on the subject. Get to know a bisexual! They're cool people!

5. The "B" in LGBTQ stands for Bisexual

Yes, the B in LGBTQ stands for bisexual believe it or not. It's there! There's a B in LGBTQ for a reason. It appears that many people don't know this or refuse to acknowledge it, but it's there! Bisexuality is real. They're not confused people, or gay, or experimenting, or greedy cheaters, or liars. They're bisexual. Don't stereotype. Get to know the person without any prejudice. I promise you, being bisexual does not mean anything else other than being attracted to both, males and females.
