    10 World Cup Inspired Foods

    As we all know it's the World Cup. Now I know for certain that most people enjoy munching while watching tv, but why not make or buy some of the countries themed food while watching the match? It's a change and it's always nice to try some new foods. I've chosen 10 countries from the 32 out of a box.

    1. England

    Fish and Chips, Toad in the Hole, Bangers and Mash

    Spotted Dick, Trifle, Crumpets, Scones, Victoria Sponge

    2. Brazil- home of the 2014 World Cup

    Pão de queijo-It is a simple roll with cheese and accompanies most meals, Feijoda-Considered the national dish of Brazil, this is a thick stew of black beans with pieces of beef and pork added to it. It is traditionally prepared in a clay pot.

    Brigadeiro- the national dessert of Brazil, A thick mix of condensed milk, butter and chocolate powder is rolled into small balls and cooked and then covered in sprinkles once cooled, Bolo de Rolo-This is a thin sponge cake rolled in to a log with a filling of Guava.

    3. Uruguay

    Asado (Barbecue)- an assortment of meats and organs grilled. Seen in most places in Uruguay, Milenesa-beef (or chicken) that is crumbed and fried, Chivito-a traditional Uruguayan sandwich with sliced steak, ham, cheese, eggs and mayonnaise. Some chivitos also have bacon added to it.

    Dulce de leche is an important tradition to the Uruguayan cuisine and is found in many of their desserts- bizochos-a pastry that comes in many shapes and size. Many are sweet, some are savory and they a Uruguayan classic, especially at breakfast or during work breaks, Alfajores-two shortbread cookies are filled with dulce de leche and covered with chocolate.

    Salade nicoise-A typical French salad made of lettuce, fresh tomatoes, boiled eggs, canned tuna, Nicoise Cailletier olives and anchovies.

    Soupe à l'oignon -This is a traditional French soup made of onions and beef stock, usually served with croutons and cheese on top, Boeuf bourguignon-This is a traditional French meal – a stew made of beef braised in red wine, beef broth and seasoned with garlic, onions, fresh herbs and mushrooms.

    I've had the fortune of going to Italy and oh my, the food is just the best!

    6. Ecuador

    Salchipapas-fried sausages (typically hotdog frankfurters) and French fries served with ketchup, mayo and sometimes, hot chili sauce, Patacones-Fried green plantains squashed into thick pancakes.

    Churrasco- thinly sliced grilled steak, topped with a fried egg and served with white rice, plantains, french fries, avocado, a salad, and hot sauce, Lomo Saltado-thin strips of beef cooked with onions, tomato, onion and sometimes slices of bell pepper

    Tres leches cake (three milks cake)- a sponge cake soaked in three kinds of milk.

    Couscous-the national dish of Algeria which is normally accompanied by fish, lamb or chicken with vegetables.

    Mechoui-a roasted whole lamb cooked on an outdoor spit, it is seasoned with herb butter so the skin is crispy and the meat inside is tender and juicy. Bread and various dried fruits and vegetables, including dates often accompany the dish.

    Stuffed dates and walnuts, Chlada Fakya which is a fresh fruit salad.

    8. Russia

    Kalduny (stuffed dumplings), Pirozhki (small pies with various fillings)

    Hollandse nieuwe haring-The raw herring fish is typically served with chopped onions, and can be eaten with or without bread,

    Griesmeelpudding-a sweet pudding served with red berry coulis, Limburgse Vlaai-A delicious pie with a tasty light crust often filled with fruits like cherries or apricots.
