Bild is reporting that on Monday afternoon, at an Internet cafe in Karl-Marx-Strasse in Neukölln, Magnotta was arrested by authorities. This comes as French authorities began to investigate the theory that Magnotta was traveling from Paris to Berlin via bus.

A Berlin police spokesperson has confirmed a man has been arrested on the basis of an international arrest warrant, but would not verify the identity of the detainee, according to Postmedia News.

German police spokesman Thomas Neuendorf later told CBC News that they have indeed arrested Magnotta. He could not confirm the exact location of the arrest, which took place at roughly 2 p.m. Berlin time.

“Somebody recognized him and called the police,” said Berlin police spokesman Stefan Rieldich in an interview with CP24. “He is being brought to one of our prisons where he will be held until all the international questions can be answered. He will be held until all of the questions will be answered in terms of who is looking for him.”

Local authorities are working with federal officials, who will then begin to share information with their Canadian counterparts.

Interpol had issued a worldwide manhunt to 190 countries to seek the arrest of the 29-year-old Canadian pornography actor. The suspect is accused of mailing a foot to the Conservative Party headquarters in Ottawa. He is wanted for first-degree murder and other charges.

Magnotta is now expected to appear in front of a judge Tuesday.

Luka Rocco Magnotta was arrested in Berlin Monday after a four-day international manhunt that spanned three countries.

The 29-year-old Canadian wanted over a horrific Montreal ice pick murder and decapitation of a Chinese student that he allegedly filmed and posted to the Internet, was arrested in or near an Internet cafe, Berlin police said.

A Canadian official has confirmed the arrest to The Canadian Press.

The report comes just as French authorities said they were investigating the theory that Magnotta travelled from Paris to Berlin via bus on the weekend.

“Somebody recognized him and (then) all the police recognized him,” Berlin police spokesperson Stefan Rieldich told CP24.

Rieldich said police were called in by a civilian who spotted Magnotta and he was arrested after police asked for his identification at about 2:00 p.m. local time.

Rieldich said Magnotta has been taken into custody and may go in front of a judge tomorrow.

Canadian officials are expected to travel to Berlin to take Magnotta into their custody in the near future.

Earlier, an employee from bus company Eurolines told AFP that police had visited a station in the Parisian suburb of Bagnolet, where investigators believe Magnotta was staying late last week.

Magnotta, whom overseas media have begun referring to as “Canadian Psycho,” has been at the centre of an international manhunt for the murder and dismemberment of a Chinese student in Montreal last month.
