Police are appealing for information after the vehicle tore through the entrance of a Travelodge in Liverpool.

Police are appealing for information after a digger ploughed through a hotel lobby in Liverpool on Monday.

One video posted on Twitter showed the vehicle driving up a set of stairs before smashing through the glass entrance to a Travelodge, while others captured footage of it tearing into structures inside.

Merseyside Police said they were alerted to the incident just before 3pm local time.

The Edge Lane Travelodge, which is roughly 2 miles east of the city centre, is under construction, police said. The company's website states that rooms are available from February.

The incident took place amid reports of a pay dispute.

Police said they were appealing for information in a statement issued on Monday.

"A report was received shortly before 3pm that the digger was being driven into the entrance of the Travelodge building in the Liverpool Innovation Park," they said.

"The driver then left the vehicle and made off on foot in the direction of Edge Lane."

They added that one man suffered "eye irritation" because of exposure to diesel and was treated at the scene.

"It is not believed anyone else was injured during the incident," the statement continued.

"Merseyside Fire and Rescue Services and contractors attended to ensure the site was safe."

    No arrests have been made.

The hotel is on Liverpool Innovation Park, a site owned by Valedown Ltd, a property company. The company issued a statement confirming that it was made aware of the incident on Monday, but declined to make any further comment.

Travelodge declined to comment when contacted by BuzzFeed News.
