The 2016 Screen Actors Guild Award TV Predictions

Will Viola reign again? And can Kimmy Schmidt break the ensemble category? We'll see.

Male Actor in a Drama Series:

Three of last years five nominees won't be returning this year (Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson and Steve Buscemi) so that leaves quite a large gap. Kevin Spacey and Peter Dinklage have been nominated every year since their series' began, so they'll definitely be back again. Jon Hamm hasn't been nominated since 2012, but coming off of an Emmy win puts him back in the race. Bob Odenkirk has the best chance out of all the new leading actors to breakthrough, unless of course his cast mate, Jonathan Banks takes the fourth spot. Terrence Howard might finally break into an awards show for his role on Empire, but he'll face competition from Sam Heughan.

1. Jon Hamm, Mad Men

2. Kevin Spacey, House of Cards

3. Bob Odenkirk, Better Call Saul

4. Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones

5. Terrence Howard, Empire

Maybe: Sam Heughan, Outlander

Female Actor in a Drama Series:

Last year, Viola Davis won this award. This year, Viola Davis is probably going to win this award again. Taraji P. Henson will be a close second though, out of all of the characters, Cookie has the biggest fanbase. Can Lena Headey be the first Game of Thrones star besides Peter Dinklage to be nominated for an Actor? Tatiana Maslany finally broke into the Emmy category so there's no reason she shouldn't reappear here after her nomination last year. Robin Wright will probably be nominated again, but I'd rather see her spot go to a Mad Men actress. It's a shame there's no room for a Downton Abbey actress like Joanne Froggatt, she could do with a smidge more recognition. If they decide to nominate six actresses again this year, I'm hoping Kerry Washington can slide back in after her first nomination back in 2013.

1. Viola Davis, How To Get Away With Murder

2. Taraji P. Henson, Empire

3. Robin Wright, House of Cards

4. Lena Headey, Game of Thrones

5. Tatiana Maslany, Orphan Black

Maybe: Kerry Washington, Scandal

Ensemble in a Drama Series:

Out of last years nominees, Downton Abbey, House of Cards and Game of Thrones are all set to return. Mad Men will most likely get a last season nod, it hasn't been nominated since 2012 but it did win the award in 2008 and 2009. Homeland has been nominated for the past three years, but if they nominate it again this year then there's no room for Empire, and we all know Empire is going to be nominated. I think Shonda shows have some of the best ensembles on television, but are any of them capable of breaking through? With a leading actress like Viola Davis and a talented young cast like Alfred Enoch and Jack Falahee, maybe How To Get Away With Murder will make the cut.

1. Game of Thrones, HBO

2. Empire, FOX

3. Mad Men, AMC

4. House of Cards, Netflix

5. Downton Abbey, PBS

Maybe: How To Get Award With Murder, ABC

Male Actor in a Comedy Series:

Amazon Prime

Jeffrey Tambor will 100% win this award, but who will join him on the nominations list? Two of the four Modern Family men were nominated last year, do you know how many will be nominated this year? Zero. Titus Burgess has been nominated for an Emmy and a Critics Choice award since Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was released on Netflix, and he'll probably be nominated for a Golden Globe too. Can he impress SAG enough to have his name appear in this category? Why the hell not! This category has been lacking a Veep representative for some time now, Tony Hale can fill that void. From last years nominees, Jim Parsons and (last years winner) William H. Macy will most likely return. On the edge of nominations are Matt LeBlanc and Don Cheadle.

1. Jeffrey Tambor, Transparent

2. Tituss Burgess, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

3. Tony Hale, Veep

4. Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory

5. William H. Macy, Shameless

Maybe: Matt LeBlanc, Episodes

Female Actor in a Comedy Series:

Why has Lisa Kudrow not won a single award for The Comeback yet? It's borderline criminal. While on Friends she was nominated in this category four times, winning once, so I'm hoping that she at least gets a nomination. Ellie Kemper has been nominated five times (four for The Office and once for Bridesmaids), but never in an individual acting category. Could she finally do it for her work on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt? Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Amy Poehler have a high chance of returning this year. Fighting for last place is Edie Falco, Mayim Bialik, Lily Tomlin and Julie Bowen, it's too close to call.

1. Amy Poehler, Parks & Recreation

2. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep

3. Ellie Kemper, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

4. Lisa Kudrow, The Comeback

Maybe: Mayim Bialik, The Big Bang Theory, Lily Tomlin, Grace & Frankie, Julie Bowen, Modern Family or Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie

Ensemble in a Comedy Series:

There's no stopping Veep right now, they have by far the best cast on television, so it's only right they should win this award, right? Not if Orange is the New Black can help it. Transparent has a high chance of being nominated, as does Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, but can Modern Family make the cut, with stiff competition from Brooklyn Nine-Nine and the star-studded Scream Queens. Maybe Parks and Recreation could pull off a surprise nomination!

1. Veep, HBO

2. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Netflix

3. Orange is the New Black, Netflix

4. Transparent, Amazon Prime

5. Modern Family, ABC

Maybe: Scream Queens, Fox

Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries:

This category has some good contenders, it should make for an exciting race. The question on everybody's lips is, can season two of True Detective break into the awards season this year? It's first season was a hit and it's two lead actors scored nominations across all the major award shows in Hollywood. Could Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn repeat that feat? Hell no, but maybe Farrell will squeeze in. Patrick Wilson is doing good work on season two of Fargo, which, unlike True Detective, has lived up to its first seasons hype. David Oyelowo is a lock, he was outstanding in Nightingale and I'm surprised that he hasn't won anything for it yet. Damian Lewis might appear in this category for his work on Wolf Hall, or Timothy Hutton will take his place for American Crime. Either way, Oscar Isaacs will take the trophy home.

1. Oscar Isaacs, Show Me A Hero

2. Patrick Wilson, Fargo

3. David Oyelowo, Nightingale

4. Colin Farrell, True Detective

5. Damian Lewis, Wolf Hall

Maybe: Timothy Hutton, American Crime

Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries:

Fargo might finally bring Kirsten Dunst the award show-attention she narrowly missed out on for her 2011 film, Melancholia, the only thing standing in her way: Queen Latifah. Felicity Huffman is a lock for American Crime, and Regina King should join her cast mate as well. Rachel McAdams might be able to cut in, if she doesn't get upstaged by Jean Smart.

1. Kirsten Dunst, Fargo

2. Queen Latifah, Bessie

3. Felicity Huffman, American Crime

4. Regina King, American Crime

5. Rachel McAdams, True Detective

Maybe: Jean Smart, Fargo
