5 Times That Suge Knight Proved He's The Industry's Resident Gangsta

In case you've not been disconnected from the internet (and humanity) you've heard of Suge Knight the co-founder and former CEO of Death Row records and current CEO of Black Kapital Records is known for his less than traditional business tactics and reputation. The shooting at the VMA pre-party is just the lastest in a series of situations that have raised a few eyebrows. Here are the top 5.

1. Ponytail Bandit

In 1987 he was arrested on domestic violence charges. He was accused of assaulting his girlfriend in the street and cutting off her ponytail!

2. The East Coast- West Coast Feud

In the mid-90's the powerhouses of hip hop Tupac, Suge Knight, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg from the west coast openly and violently feuded with Biggie Smalls, Sean Combs and the other members of east coasts Bad Boy label. Igniting a east coast/west coast divided that had people on each coast choosing sides.

3. Bankruptcy

Things weren't so sweet for Suge in 2006 when he filed a $107M bankruptcy suit to keep from losing control of Death Row records.

4. Prison Stints

Suge Knight is no stranger to the court or the cage. In 1996 he was sent to prison for9 years because of a parole violation (on a weapons charge) and spent 5 years there before being released in 2001. And he walked out like a gangsta!

5. Founding of Death Row Records

In 1991 Dr. Dre and Suge Knight left Ruthless Records and the NWA (in Dre's case) to found one of the most influential labels in history. Snoop Lion (then Snoop Doggy Dog) signed with them and released his debut album Doggystyle which went quadruptle platinum.
