Studies have shown that orange essential oil helps boost mood and alertness, and can reduce anxiety. If you don't keep the fresh fruit on hand, buy some bottled oil and dab a drop on each wrist or massage into your temples for the same effect.

2. Get in touch with your appetite by eating ˜mindfully˜. This means eating your meals without any distractions

Put simply, mindful eating means sitting down at a table instead of in front of a screen and chewing your food slowly, rather than scarfing it down. You're more in touch with how hungry you actually are this way and are less likely to overeat.

5. Take care of your eyes by following the 20/20/20 rule.

Staring at a backlit device such as a smartphone or laptop all day is straining on your eyes. The 20/20/20 rule reduces this. Every 20 minutes, take a 20 second break and let your eyes wander over something six meters (20 ft) in the distance.

6. Schedule in some time to meditate - even if it's just 10 minutes.

Taking just a little bit of time to sit, chill, breathe in, and breathe out can make a big difference to the flow of your day. If you're new to meditation, start with an app like Headspace, which guides you through the process.

8. If you catch the train or bus to work, get off a stop early and walk.

Besides being an easy way to increase your daily step count, getting some fresh air before heading in to the office is a good way to clear your head.

9. Make a habit out of drinking herbal teas.

There is a herbal tea for everything. Green tea is a great energy-boosting alternative to coffee, chamomile helps you go to sleep, and fennel and peppermint teas aid digestion.

10. Avoid the heavy use of technology outside of work hours.

This is not to say turn off your phone the second you leave the office, but also try not to be glued to a screen right up until you go to sleep. It will help you to switch off.

11. Try to get to bed an hour earlier than usual.

So many stress-related symptoms come down to lack of sleep. Try getting a little extra, and see how you feel. If you're finding this harder than it should be, try setting an alarm for the time you want to be in bed by.

13. Pay attention to your posture, especially if you work most of the day from a desk.

Be mindful of the way you hold your shoulders and neck. A laptop stand is a good investment for slouch prevention. This ergonomic guide is also helpful.

15. Pre-prepare meals and snacks on a Sunday evening.

You'll save time and energy not having to think about what to eat throughout the week, and it's an easy way to eat healthily without even trying.

16. Step away from your desk! Try eating outside.

Even if all you can manage away from your desk is 20 minutes at lunchtime, getting some fresh air can make such a difference to your mood and afternoon productivity.

If you know you're in for an inevitably boozy Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday, consider saying no to a glass of wine at your chilled Monday night dinner. Balance is key.

20. Eat at home more often, and plan your leftovers.

Besides saving yourself from the hidden salt, fat, and sugar in bought meals, you'll save cash. When you do eat at home, make extra so you don't have to worry about dinner the next day.

21. Take a big water bottle with you everywhere you go.

Carrying a water bottle is the best way to ensure hydration throughout the day. Try and avoid plastic by choosing a more durable option such as glass or steel.
