People Have Been Talking Nonstop About "Love Is Blind" On Netflix, So I Watched Episode 1

Historians will one day marvel at this.

If you've been on the internet at all the past week, you might have noticed a lot of people talking about the new Netflix show Love is Blind.

Basically, it's a dating show hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey, where a bunch of girls and guys go into solo "pods" where they can't see the other person and have conversations until they decide which one they want to marry. (Yes, MARRY.)

I'm not sure exactly why Nick and Vanessa Lachey are the hosts, but here we are.

It sounded pretty wild, so I decided to watch the first episode!

I am truly afraid of what I am about to see.

The episode starts with a bunch of glam limo shots of contestants playing over some real cheesy pop music.

Everyone starts describing why they're going on the show. Basically, people seem fed up with short-term connections made on dating apps based on physical appearance.

One guy, after saying it's not about physical attraction, says this:

Oh man. That got real intense, real fast.

There's a bunch of talk about marriage, and then the girls and guys arrive at their living quarters.

At this point I realized the girls all live together and the guys all live together. This definitely seems like it's going to cause drama.

Then Vanessa and Nick come in and explain the premise of the show.

The most batshit part is that they have only 10 DAYS before they must MOVE IN TOGETHER, and four weeks total until they actually GET MARRIED. Wow. Just wow.

They explain the pods the contestants will interact in (which are basically comfy rooms with lots of alcohol), and then pretty soon we're off!

If your first thought isn't wondering if anyone will have "pod sex," then we, my friend, will not get along.

NOW THE FUN BEGINS. It starts off well!

Mark and Jessica bond over the Bears, which seems like a normal first date convo.

There's even some flirting!!!!

Cameron and Lauren can't stop smiling, which is actually sort of making me think you can feel attraction without ever seeing someone. I guess people actually are looking for a genuine connection, and I get why they'd do this experiment...

HOLD UP. I SPOKE TOO SOON. SOME OF THESE PEOPLE ARE JUST RIDICULOUS.

I was feeling all warm and fuzzy after the first few couples, but then Amber and Barnett came into the picture and oh boy. Barnett thinks everyone is into him and asks fellow contestant Diamond if she's a stripper. Amber laments being so attractive and says something about "becoming her own masculine influence" in order to avoid having daddy issues?

There are more cringeworthy moments, but the worst is when one guy guesses???? Lauren's??? Race???? BASED ON HER VOICE???

Lauren's face says it all.

The boys and girls separate and go back to their quarters, discussing their thoughts. Unfortunately, there's not much drama (yet).

^Unfortunately, this seems to be a joke.

The days go on, and there are a couple more connections, mostly between Barnett and every other woman on the show.

I don't know who Barnett is into at this point, honestly.

But the craziest strides comes with Cameron and Lauren, who one day cry over their families together, and then ON DAY 4 SAY "I LOVE YOU" TO EACH OTHER!!!

I was truly shocked. But also kind of rooting for them??? What's wrong with me?

One contestant (Jessica) is really torn between two guys, one of them being classic fuckboy Barnett.

"I can see them both being my husband, which is crazy." Jessica. THIS IS DAY 4. This show is absolutely wild.

A contestant named Carlton is hitting it off with Diamond. However, he's worried about how she might react to him having dated men before.

I support you, Carlton!!!

Quick note: THERE ARE SO MANY CONTESTANTS. They show up for like five seconds, then disappear.

I have no idea who these people are.

My confusion is interrupted by SOMETHING EVEN MORE CONFUSING: CAMERON PROPOSING TO LAUREN!!!

She says yes!!! Am I completely bamboozled? Yes. Am I crying right now? Also yes.

My tears are stemmed when we flashback to Fuckboy Barnett, who has (I guess?) decided he wants to be with Indecisive Jessica.

Yes, the same Jessica who is deciding between two men. YES, THE SAME BARNETT WHO HAS BEEN HITTING IT OFF WITH ALL THE GIRLS. This is definitely going to cause drama.

The episode ends with engaged couple Cameron and Lauren get ready to meet face-to-face....

AND THEN IT ENDS. WHAT A CLIFFFHANGER.

Wow. That was A LOT.

I'm not gonna lie, I was kind of into it. I'm actually invested now.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I am confused. Floored. Utterly flummoxed.

Will I watch another episode? 100%. Especially because it looks like the show also follows the couples through their engagement. According to the promo, drama naturally ensues. And I have to say, I cannot wait.

IS IT WORTH YOUR TIME: I mean, I wouldn't cancel a doctor's appointment to watch it, but it's worth putting on in the background if you're reality trash like me.
