This eastern European city is known for its striking architecture, beautiful bridges spanning the Danube River, and today more than ever, its cuisine. It's a great city for eating on a budget, thanks to affordable Hungarian bisztró serving everything from goulash to stuffed cabbage. But if you're seeking higher end dining, Budapest has plenty of that as well, including its first two-star Michelin restaurant.

When you think of French cuisine, your mind probably goes straight to Paris. But Bordeaux — one of the country's most prominent wine regions — has a food scene to match. On the one hand, you'll find haute restaurant houses in 18th century chateaux, but Bordeaux is also home to quaint wine bars and trendy neo bistros run by up-and-coming young chefs.

You may not think of Reykjavik as a real food town, but one visit to Iceland's capital and you'll change your mind. The city boasts everything from cheap (and insanely delicious) hot dogs and fish and chips, to world-class seafood.

Often overlooked by the city of Lisbon, Porto deserves a visit in its own right. This colorful city along the Duoro River boasts delicious restaurants and wine that you'll find in both affordable tapas bars and high end eateries. Both the seafood and the meat are fantastic, so prepare to try everything from cod fish croquettes and stewed clams to chorizo sausage and roast suckling pig.

When it comes to Italian cuisine, there's far more than Rome and Florence. Take the city of Modena in the Emilia-Romagna region. Modena is famous for its balsamic vinegar, and it's located right next to the town of Parma, home of sharp and tangy Parmesan cheese and Bologna, a mecca for fresh egg pasta. Within Modena, you'll find incredible Italian food. Whatever you do, try to snag a reservation at Massimo Battura's Osteria Francescana. It's often considered _the_ single best restaurant in the world.

The country of Greece contains hundreds of islands you can visit, but for foodies, the obvious choice is Athens. This historic city is best known for its thriving street food scene. Walk around the city and you can chow down on anything from souvlaki and greek meatballs to keftes (Greek falafel) and bourek pastries overflowing with cheese and sesame.
