Teachers, I'm Dying To Know About Your Wildest Encounter With A Student's Parent

Teachers, I could never be as patient as you.

It takes a lot of patience to be a teacher. As if single-handedly dealing with dozens of kids weren't hard enough, teachers also get the joy of dealing with parents.

Though some parents are undeniably supportive, kind, and unproblematic, some are far less easy to deal with.

Perhaps you brought in a student's mom for a parent-teacher conference after noticing her child's grades slipping. You expressed your concern and offered to help in any way you could. Their mom seemed fine at the conference, but when you walked to your car at the end of the day, you found a long scratch along the side and a note on the windshield that said, "How dare you try and lecture me about MY child!"

Maybe you had an end-of-year picnic for your class and invited parents to attend. You brought out a cooler of ice pops and had the kids line up to grab theirs. After the first seven kids, you ran out of blue ice pops and were left with red, orange, and green. The next student in line began whining that they couldn't have blue but begrudgingly grabbed a green ice pop. His dad overheard the commotion and began scolding you for not having extra blue ones. You apologized and tried to defuse the situation, but instead, the father threw his kid's green ice pop at you and stormed off.

Or perhaps you refused to accept a paper from a student after realizing it was plagiarized, and asked them to redo it. The student's parent then found you on Facebook and began sending you threatening messages. After you calmly explained the school's policy on plagiarism to the parent and asked them to meet you in person for a discussion, they proceeded to post all over their Facebook page about how horrible a teacher you are, sharing your full name and where you work.

Teachers, what's the worst interaction with a parent you've ever endured? Drop your story in the comments below, or use this form if you'd like to be anonymous! You may be featured in a BuzzFeed Community post.
