People Who Have Made An Excuse To Leave In The Middle Of A Terrible Date — Tell Us What Happened

Gotta blast!

The dating scene can be pretty rough — especially in a world so reliant on dating apps and meeting online. When you're first meeting someone, whether at a bar, through a friend, or behind a phone screen, it can be tricky to get a good sense of their character right off the bat.

Even when someone seems good on paper, you never really know what you're signing up for until you're face to face. This uncertainty can, unfortunately, lead to some nightmarish dates.

Perhaps you met a guy on a dating app who seemed charismatic and interesting. You met for dinner, and he wouldn't stop making rude, arrogant comments. From the way you were dressed to the food you ordered, he nitpicked everything and tried to play it off as a joke. You were polite and just assumed he was nervous, but once he started harassing the server, you were done. You excused yourself to the bathroom, but called an Uber home instead. You texted him from the car that his behavior was unacceptable, then blocked his number.

Or maybe one of your coworkers overheard that you were single, so they insisted on setting you up with their friend's daughter. You agreed to meet her for a drink, and she showed up with two of her friends. You tried conversing with her, but she only seemed interested in giggling with her friends and playing on her phone. You pretended to take a "family emergency" call, then told her you had to rush home. She hardly seemed to notice you were leaving, so you left her with your unpaid tab and went home.

Or perhaps you went on a few dates with someone who seemed really fun and nice, so you made a plan to go to a comedy show together. Everything was going great, until about an hour in, they revealed they were going up and doing a set. They proceeded to perform an entire set completely trashing you and the three dates you'd been on so far. They even mentioned you by name and pointed you out in the crowd. It was SUPER uncomfy, but they thought it was hilarious. When they came back to sit down, you threw your drink in their face and stormed out of the club.

Or maybe you were on a date where nothing earth-shattering or dramatic happened, but you just weren't feeling the vibe. After sticking it out for about half an hour, you said you felt a migraine coming on and booked it out of there.

Have you ever been in the middle of a date and thought, "No thanks!" and left? Did you fake an emergency text? Did you sneak off to the bathroom and never return? How did you facilitate your great escape, and why did you leave in the first place? Tell us your story in the comments, or submit anonymously using this form.
