The Facial Expressions Of The Retail/Customer Service World

If you have worked in a retail/customer service related job, you would know for a fact that customers can be annoying. For the more perceptive assistants, you could tell if a customer is going to be a pain in the back side based on the following facial expressions. Embrace yourself for what is to unfold...

1. The You Mean Nothing to Me Face...

Probably the most annoying look ever is when a customer looks down at you for working in retail.

2. The Huh?...

This look comes about when you have just bombarded a customer with technical jargon or your work spiel which has clearly gone right over their head. This look is then accompanied by a million questions, of which the answers have already been relayed to them on numerous occasions.

3. The Price Ain't Right Face...

When the price is steep and you know that the customer will try and bargain their way to a discount.

4. The How Do I Know Face...

The customer assumes you know every product available in the store, what it is compatible with, how to use it, etc. When you ask the customer a simple question to help them pick the best option available, they get so annoyed that you even asked them, and that you don't know every minute detail about their life also.

5. The Did You Just Say That Face...

An all too familiar facial expression when a customer has been caught off guard by something you have said, whether it is intended as a smat-arse remark or not.

6. The Yeah Right with Eye Roll Face...

When the customer thinks they are right and doesn't acknowledge what you're saying. Usually followed up by a spiel about how much they know or for you to stop bulls*******.

7. The Get the Manager Finger Point...

There will always be a yeller and finger pointer DEMANDING for an answer or for the manager to come out. When it escalates to this level, you know that when the manage comes out, the customer is going to list a series of things you have done wrong in order for them to get their way.

8. The That's What You Think Face...

When the customer gives you this look, it usually means that they have done their own research and think they know more than you. It can also be accompanied when you assume that a transaction will take place but it only takes one thing to put them off before they walk away.

9. The I Do Not Agree Eye Squint Face...

There's always that one customer that listens intently to what you have to say, before they launch at you with their opinions. The eye squint indicates that you're about to cop it.

10. The Never Heard of That Before Face...

When the customer finds something you have said to be so outlandish, they usually tend to fire back smart-arse remarks in an attempt to belittle you.

11. The Scan of Disbelief Face...

Some people feel the need to pan across their group of friends or family and show them how shocked they are with the service you have provided. This usually implies that back up is required so that a 1 on 1 interaction becomes a 5 on 1 bullying extravaganza.

12. The That Ain't Right Face...

Customers always misunderstand things and at some point during the transaction or service, this face appears. Several questions are fired at you and they often put words into your mouth to cover themselves what they thought they heard.

13. The What Did You Say Face...

Like the previous face, customers latch onto certain words and go on tyrant attacks.

14. The Excuse Me, You Just Offended Me Face...

Prudish customers usually give you this look if you have even remotely offended their lifestyle or product choice. You will hear the usual spiel about them never having been offended before in such a way.

15. The I Am Better Than You Face...

Another one of those faces where the customer thinks they are better than you. Get ready to be put down for working in the retail industry when you see this face.

16. The Death Stare...

Another form of intimidation is the good old death stare. When the customer is unsatisfied with your service, be prepared to be given this look.

17. The Do As I Say Face...

There is always that one hero who uses their physique to intimidate you and get what they want.

18. The F*** This S*** Face...

When a customer has a short fuse and blows up without warning, or after not getting their way. If you see this happening, just RUN.
