Sitting atop the NFC West at 2-0 is the San Francisco 49ers. In week one the Niners were able to grind out a tough win against the Arizona Cardinals, in week two a 207 yard Frank Gore performance propelled them to a victory against the Seattle Seahawks. But can this unit keep it up?
One thing is for certain, Mike Singletary has this defense playing inspired, giving up only 291 offensive yards per game which is ranked 7th in the NFL, 21st against the pass and 3rd against the run. The inside of this defense is held together by inside linebacker Patrick Willis (who is virtually headed for Canton at this pace) and stud outside linebacker Manny Lawson. The secondary although past its prime has been playing well of late, and has only given up so many yards because the run defense has forced the offense into throwing situations; Nate Clements, Michael Lewis, Mark Roman, and Shawntae Spencer are all doing
