1. PERSIS KHAMBATTA

Khambatta was the pioneer of females intentionally going bald for films with her role of Lieutenant Ilia in the original Star Trek. Capturing the hearts of Trekkies and non-Trekkies alike, this Bollywood beauty shaved off her hair way back in 1979 and was the very first Indian woman to present an award at the Oscars. Tragically, Khambatta died of a heart-attack on the 18th August, 1998, in her hometown of Mumbai.

2. ANGELINA JOLIE

Jolie shaved her head in the 1998 HBO TV movie Gia to play the ill-fated supermodel Gia Carangi, who is believed to be the first woman to die of AIDS in 1986. She earned an Emmy nomination and won a Golden Globe and a SAG Award for her performance.

Self-made actress, Rene Michelle Aranda, is the 1st recipient of the "Outstanding Performance by an Actress" national award by The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Aranda was flown from L.A. to D.C. in 2012 to honor her portrayal of "Willie The Space Freak" in a 2010-11 gender-bended adaptation of Sam Shepard's, "The Unseen Hand". It was the 1st time the Kennedy Center had issued recognition of this nature since its founding in 1969. When asked how she felt about the career move, Aranda attributes her lack of hesitation in shaving her head to an honor she felt she owed her late mother, who passed in 2009 from Cancer.
