    The Man Bun

Dear men, if you're tall, dark, handsome, and got that prince charming thing going on, your days of getting the girl are over. There is a new look women are fantasizing about and it doesn't involve short, slicked back hair and a clean shave.

Enter the Man Bun- long, thick hair shaped into a firm round bun on top of one's head. Men all over America are growing out their hair to achieve this look and more and more women are drooling over it.

Confidence- it is the first secret to the man bun. If you cannot own it, you cannot rock it. The second secret is you need long hair, so start growing it out. Lastly, strong hair elastic to put that man bun in place is key. These can be purchased at any pharmacy or grocery store and can be found in the hair accessory section.

This trend has gone nationwide, but Oxford is a little late to this bun party and just jumped on the bandwagon. Many men around Oxford are influenced by celebrities who have this look and are beginning to grow out their hair to find their zen with the bun.

Nick Melisi, a senior at Ole Miss is one of the few who actually rock the man bun around town. Melisi's first celebrity influence was actor Jared Leto but now, Melisi hopes to achieve One Direction singer, Harry Style's man bun by spring break.

"Around here, people notice the man bun. Theres something about it, you get the man bun up, you get real confident real quick", said Melisi.

The Massachusetts native realizes it is more likely to find men with man buns in large cities than in some towns down south. But that's not stopping Melisi, he enjoys begin unique and stands out with his long bun.

"They exist, but they are just starting to come out and Mississippi is a little different. I'm sure when I go back up North it will be bun city, everywhere", said Melisi.

The man bun is not a favorite for every crowd; Melisi's parents encouraged him to cut his hair by the time he gets a job because society typically associates professionalism with a clean cut, short hairstyle. Melisi believes people, especially older generations, are just not fans of long hair on men in general. However, the man bun to Melisi is worth the backlash.

It is clear that the biggest fans of the man bun are the ladies. Mary Claire Stennett, a senior at Ole Miss, loves a guy who can rock the bun. "What attracts me is knowing a guy has long luscious hair that I can play with tied back", said Stennett.

Stennett has seen a few man buns around town but is, "still waiting to see a guy with the perfect bun".

Other men, like Billy Canale, former Cups employee, agrees with Melisi. "I do think it's a great way to wear your hair. I think it looks great on a lot of people and if you can pull it off I say go for it", said Canale. While he is a late adapter he enjoys trying the new look, although he admits there are challenges to growing out his hair, like facing awkward length stages.

"I'm sure I'll get attention from it, even though that's not what I'm going for. In a traditional town like Oxford things that are different tend to stand out to people", said Canale.

Eye-candy comes into play with the man bun. Being able to pull off the man bun is one things Oxford men cannot seem to grasp. Being a hot hipster, sexy lumberjack, or clean cut modern man fits the man bun criteria and sadly, Oxfords men are not cutting it.

Senior Emily Parham agrees that although the bun makes men appear manlier, very few men in Oxford know how to pull the look together.

"Guys in Oxford who wear them don't really wear them that well. They look unkept", said Parham.

Oxford men better step up their game if they want the ladies to do a double take. Either way these man buns are making heads turn in Oxford and more guys are liking this trend.

Canale's hair is almost at the man bun stage and once it is he will be an addition to the man bun cult that is forming in Oxford.

"I think I'll feel unique. Unique is good and I think Oxford needs a little more "unique"", said Canale.
