VIDEO: You’ll Never Believe What 1 Georgia Congressman Did For The Family Of A Fallen Soldier

When a Georgia family couldn’t get their questions answered about the death of their son, Sgt. Paul Saylor, Congressman Phil Gingrey went to work.

    1. Georgia native Paul Saylor was offered a scholarship from the National Guard to attend North Georgia College.

    2. After graduation, Paul was commissioned as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and deployed to Iraq.

    3. On August 15, 2005, Sgt. Saylor was tragically killed when his Humvee crashed in Mahmudiyah, Iraq.

When the Saylor family received Paul’s body five days later, they asked to have him prepared for viewing at his funeral. But the way in which Paul’s body was handled after his death made that almost impossible.

    5. The Saylor’s asked the Pentagon how this could happen, but the family could not get all the answers.

    6. That’s when Patti Saylor and her family turned to Congressman Phil Gingrey to help them get answers and the closure they deserved.

    7. Phil Gingrey immediately started working to get the facts.

    8. This included him traveling from Washington to U.S. military bases in Dover Maryland, Germany and Iraq to get answers in person.

    9. During his travels overseas and back in Washington, Phil learned inadequate procedures were used to preserve Paul’s body after the accident.

    10. So Phil promptly introduced an amendment in Congress... what he affectionately called “The Saylor Amendment.

    11. He went to Fort Sam Houston in Texas to witness the new training his amendment required.

    12. Thanks to Phil Gingrey, no other family will have to go through this and the Saylors received the answers they sought.
