Accused Australian drug smuggler Cassie Sainsbury is reportedly under pressure to dob in members of the cocaine smuggling syndicate she allegedly worked for in return for a reduced jail sentence in Colombia.
The 22-year-old, who allegedly tried to smuggle 5.8kg of cocaine out of Bogota's El Dorado International Airport last month, has been offered a prosecution plea deal by Colombian authorities, The Advertiser has reported.
The deal could reduce a potential 30-year jail sentence to four years, but it is understood Sainsbury is still protesting her innocence.
The Advertiser speculated that a deal between Sainsbury and prosecutors may force Sainsbury to enter a witness protection program to avoid retaliation from the alleged drug cartel.
