1. It’s NOT just a one-day event

Actually, there is a series of events that lead toward Easter Sunday. It is a 40-day period commonly known as Lent with emphasis on the last week where Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and Easter Sunday is the day of his resurrection.

Historically, churches forbade the eating of eggs during Lent. The accumulation of eggs from chickens would lead to a large store by the end of Lent, so the eggs were eventually incorporated into celebrating Easter.

The Easter Bunny, while having pagan origins, are also associated with the fertility of hares. Thus they too have been linked to the idea of new birth that is central to the resurrection of Christ.

Most people would be surprised to find out that it is not only bunnies that are in the limelight during Easter. Various countries associate other animals with this festival too! The fox is an example.

Despite the widespread knowledge that Jesus died and rose again on Easter, few actually know the significance of this central truth of the Christian faith. When Jesus, who was sinless, died for sinful Man, He took all our punishment upon Himself so that we might be able to go back to God.

If Jesus simply remained dead, Christians would be worshipping a dead god, and sin would have defeated God. On the flipside, His resurrection on the third day proves that He has defeated sin and death! As such, it is only He who is able to give us new life, if we only believe in Him.
